Just FYI everybody - Beryl is old news. Compiz-Fusion is the way to go now (the Beryl/Compiz merger, just out of development.)

However, don't even THINK of using Beryl/Compiz if you don't have more than 768 MB of ram, A fairly modern processor (lower that requirement a bit if using a dual core/dual processor CPU) , and a decent video card. |
Dude, no offense, but that's inaccurate. I'm running Compiz-Fusion on a system with the following spec:
Celeron 1200mhz CPU
768mb RAM
Intel Extreme 2 integrated 64meg shared mem (it's about 5 years ago.)
It's a LAPTOP for Christ's sake!
That system gives me VERY reasonable performance on everything but pixelshader.
I'm also running it on THIS system with ALL the effects cranked up at 30-60fps:
Pentium 4 Northwood @ 3000mhz
512meg DDR400
BFGTech FX5200 256mb AGP
Those are both slow systems by today's standards and Compiz-Fusion is even more resource intensive than Beryl, and it runs perfectly fine on both systems.
