my bass guitar is an ibanez, it's built really solid n sounds wicked but it's pretty hard to slap and pop on when i compare it to some of my friends bass'. I also own a fender strat 'remake' which imo sounds awesome but my amp isn't very good and gets a lot of feedback. I would suggest something like a silvertone which is quite cheap and reasonably good quality too... although a 'metal' type silvertone might cost a bit more but i haven't really checked the prices in a while.
