Default 4 in 1 Guide: Adding Subtitles to AVIs Ripped From DVD

Hello everyone, Blood Angel here. I'm here with a guide as mentioned in the title. Before I begin, though, three things. One, I'm breaking this guide into chunks, one post per step, 4 steps. I'll ask that no one post any combo breakers in the meantime. Two, I know that my first point breaks the double post rule, but I think it'll be easier on the eyes. Mods, please don't lock or delete the thread, and please don't ban me, I'm only trying to help others. Three, I didn't really know where to put this, so if there is a better section, sorry.

Oh yeah, I only take credit for bringing all the steps together. The real credit goes to the people mentioned below. Now, on to the guide.

So, this is a good guide for anyone who has a DVD with no English audio (such as the copy of
Hard Boiled I have), or, like me, you have an anime movie and prefer sub to dub. Before starting, I
want to mention that this guide is a compilation of 4 guides into one:

-How to Backup High Quality DVDs to PSP by lead2gold of PSPMod.com, found here (how to backup high quality dvds to psp).
-Rip Subtitles with SubRip, found at afterdawn.com, here.
-Converting VOB files to MPEG, AVI, or Another Video Format, from the afterdawn.com forums, here.
-Adding Subtitles to Any .avi File, again at afterdawn.com, here.

See? Having four tabs open for something like this is a real pain. Anyway, on to what you'll need.
-DVD Shrink or other DVD ripper that creates .vob files
-VirtualDub-MPEG2 and AC3ACM (found on the second post of the Converting VOB thread)
-SubRip (found in the Rip Subtitles page)
-SRT-SSA Converter (Adding Subtitles page)
-VirtualDub Subtitler Plug-in (Adding Subtitles page)
-Winmenc (google it. I used version 0.61 for this tutorial)
-DVD you want video from.

With these programs on your hard drive, let's begin.

For the Noobs:
Want Custom Firmware? You'll probably need a Magic Memory Stick and Pandora's Battery. Please use this guide here.
Don't want to make one? Don't get cheated on Ebay, go here, a site run by a member of this very forum.
And please, use the Guides and Search buttons. More than likely, your question has already been answered.
