If that's the case, he won't notice jack shit if you change the wireless security anyway. Just use the same password. To get into the router settings you usually just need to type in the IP address. Default usernames and passwords can be found on Google.com.

Worst case scenario, do a full reset on your router (you generally hold the reset button for 30 seconds - the process can vary), set everything up again and say the router wasn't working. If he's a dick, just say you had to call the router manufacturer and they instructed you to do so. I had a stubborn stepdad as well, but honestly, dude... you shouldn't have any troubles changing your wireless security.
