Try going into your PSP's cross media bar (XMB) and check your memory card to see if it is "magic gate - supported". Just highlight the memory stick anyplace it shows up and hit the 3 button (triangle) and click "information". If it says Magic Gate Unknown then it's not supported.

As far as I know you need a totally real memory stick for it to be magic gate supported, but I could be wrong. I'm not an expert, I just know how I got mine working. If it's not magic gate supported then it probably works fine for holding data (my non-supported one does), but I don't think it will install CFW. The batteries from these people seem to be legit, even if their "magic memory sticks" are less magical than advertised. So you probably have the important part. You might be forced to go buy another memory stick from a real retail store to get the magic gate support. Goodluck! If it's any consolation it's totally worth it. Once you get it working the CFW PSP will rock.
