I've done quite a bit of research on this and thought i'd share it all with you guys. For a while i've wanted to take my existing dvds i own and make a compressed (due to memory duo constraints) high quality copy of it that would fit my psp screen.
I have now successfully backed up and created 3 beautiful working movies that run flawlessly.. They are high quality, surround sound, run on the 111/222Mhz base setting (so no overclocking needed), and they have been resized to fit the 480x272 diminsons of the psp.
Here is how i did it:
Programs required:
1. dvd shrink (
http://http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html) will give you instructions on how to obtain it). It is not illegal to have so long as you agree to the licensing agreement and only use this for your own backup purposes as i did.
2. DVD43
http://www.dvd43.com/ neat little tool that is not essential at all, It adds a little happy face to your system clock tray at the bottom of windows. When you insert a DVD, it will allow your computer to override a little more copy protection that could be in place when using dvd shrink. This tool is not nessisary, but very nice to have.
3. PSPlayermt (
http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSPlayerMT-...g/49/aid/11016) Some of the best homebrew i've seen as it allows the psp to play all the video extensions you couldn't before (such as divx and xvid). I backed up all my movies to xvid as it is a slightly higher compression. For example... I backed up "Meet the Parents" and it only took up 400MB. This is full screen on the psp (widescreen is assumed when you back these movies up) full dolby 5.1 sound and 30-40fps.
4. Winmenc (google it) This is the tool that will convert your extracted/decrypted dvd on your hardrive to the format of choice (Xvid is my preference).
Hopefully you all have read this far and i still have everyones intrest!
