Gun: Showdown
This game is utterly beautiful to the core. A western adventure game, like the other 2 reviews I've done, that I haven't yet beaten. But I cannot get enough.
You star as Colton White, a hunter to supply steamboats with meat for their voyages. As you are about to get paid, a harlot named Sadie pulls your father into a room on the steamboat to show him an object(and that's not innuendo). A preacher questions Sadie, and she doesn't tell him. He kills her. He orders his henchmen to destroy the boat and leave no survivors. Your father gives you a coin and tells you to look for a woman named Jenny at The Alhambra in Dodge City. Once he dies, you set off.
A good game in general. I'm going right off the bat with the negatives, the controls. The controls in this game aren't bad, are actually somewhat decent at worst. I just still have to get used to holding down down on the d-pad to either reload, whistle for my horse, holster a weapon, or zoom.
The game does everything else good. The action is very western, as depicted by movies. You have a 6-shooter, a revolver for those who couldn't put it together, rifles, you can even trample people with your horse, Rogue. You have a bullettime feature by tapping up on the d-pad, in which time slows down and you use no ammunition from your weapon(a glitch?). You can tap left or right on the analog to choose an enemy. You cannot move. You can heal yourself just like a man would by none other than downing some whiskey of unknown brand.
The side missions in this game also fit the western theme. Poker anyone? It's Texas Hold 'Em, and you have to win all the 500 dollars at the table to beat the side mission. Not a gambler? Why not be the law? Help out by settling Dodge City's misfits with some gunfire. You can even go to bounty offices to get the names of people who are Wanted: Dead or Alive, for cash. Small amounts of cash.
Keep in mind, that this game only takes part partly in Dodge City. It has a massive outlands where you can mine gold or just get lost in it's lavish detail.
I really don't want to spoil this gem of a game, so go out there and get it.
