Default Ultimate OE-A/B Custom Firmware Guide (WIP)

Ultimate 3.02 OE-A/B Custom Firmware Guide

Warning! pspmod, psp-hacks, qj.net, myself, or anyone else isnt responsible if you brick your psp while using any of the information in this guide. understand the risks involved anytime u flash your psp's memory and the potential hazards that come with it

What is it?

OE-A/B is a custom firmware coded by Dark_Alex. simply put, its a hacked version of 3.02 w/ homebrew capibilities. It features a no-umd mod, regionless umd playback, WMA playback, as well as all the basic fuctions of previous firmwares up to 3.02. the biggest reason to install this is for the Playstaion emulator, which allows full speed playback of PSX games.

Download Resource

1.50 Eboot
3.02 Eboot
3.02 OE-A Firmware
3.02 OE-B Firmware
3.02 OE-A Easy Installer For 1.50 Users
3.02 OE-A Easy Installer For 2.71 SE-C Users

Manual OE-A Install (1.50 Users)

1. Although it's not required, back up all your data in your PSP and format the PSP's memory stick to be free from any fuss over install errors.

2. Download custom firmware OE-A from the link in the resource above

3. Unzip the contents of the file and you will find two groups of folders. OEUPDMAKER and OEFLASHER. Be sure to copy those as well as their counterparts into the GAME folder.

4. Download the 3.02 JP EBOOT, and the 1.50 NA EBOOT from the resources above, and place them into the OEUPDMAKER folder (not the one with the % sign) and rename them 302 and 150 respectively.

5. Disconnect the PSP and run OEUPDMAKER from the GAME menu via memory stick and follow instructions to install it.

6. Once done, reopen the PSP via USB and go to the OEUPDMAKER folder and you will find the DATA.DXAR file. Copy that file onto the OEFLASHER! (not the one with a % sign)

7. THIS PROCEDURE NEEDS AT LEAST 75% BATTERY LIFE. However, you can bypass that by holding triangle and the L trigger if you think your battery life is good enough. I also stress that it is mandatory that you need to have your PSP plugged in at all times. Anyway, now it's time to flash. Follow the instructions, start the flasher, and then place your PSP in a safe place until the flasher is complete. Now just restart your PSP once the flasher says so, and make sure to completely turn it off, not just let it go on sleep mode.

8. Once you turn off your PSP, turn it back on HOLD THE R TRIGGER to enable recovery mode. This little gadget will help you out of bricks (Happened to me a lot when customizing 3.02 OE-A) and recover you back to 1.5.

9. Go to CONFIGURATION> then place any configurations necessary for your preferences, but be sure to set the firmware to 1.50 KERNEL MODE.

10. Exit the recovery mode and then enjoy 3.02 OE-A. Be warned that it will give you a blue screen of death sometimes, but it's fine.

Easy Installer Method

1. Download the easy installer for your firmware version from the resource and save it to your pc

2. connect the psp to the usb cable and activate it

3. run the .exe u downloaded and follow the onscreen instructions. the installer may stop at 37%. this is normal, so leave it alone and it will install the files for you

4. now disconnect the psp from the usb cable and run the 3.02 OE-A installer. When its finished, hold the power button to manually shut down the psp. now turn it back on and youll be running 3.02 A if everything went well

Installing OE-A On A 2.71 SE PSP (Manual Method)

Generating the DATA.DXAR:

1. Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME/ if you are using 1.50 firmware and to X:/PSP/GAME150 if you are using whatever version of 2.71 Se.

2. Get the 1.50 and 3.02 Update eboots in the oeupdmaker folder with the names "150.PBP" and "302.PBP".

3. Run oeupdmaker. This program will create a file called DATA.DXAR in the same directory (oeupdmaker).

4. The program will verify that the SHA-1 of the generated file is correct.

5. Once that you have done this, you can save the DATA.DXAR file to skip this step in the future.

Flashing DATA.DXAR:

1. Copy the directories oeflasher and oeflasher% to /PSP/GAME (or /PSP/GAME150 if you are on 2.71 SE)

2. Copy the generated DATA.DXAR from oeupdmaker to oeflasher directory.

3. Run the flasher. If your battery is less than 75%, the program will show the error saying so and will return you to the XMB. This check can be by passed at your own risk by executing the program with triangle and L pressed.

4. The program will continue showing an agreement. Press X to accept and flash the custom firmware, or R to cancel and exit to the XMB.

5. If you accept, the program will flash the custom firmware. Don't shutdown the PSP and don't remove the memory stick.

6. Once finished, shutdown the psp and restart manually to 3.02 OE

You can aslo use the Easy Installer, which will take care of all those steps for you and makes the firmware upgrade pretty much foolproof. you can find the download in the resources section

Updating To OE-B

This is simple, so ill keep it short and sweet, download the update from the resource and place it in the folder OEB_UPDATE inside /PSP/GAME150 and run it. the update is small so it should take no time to finish

Running Playstation One (PSX) Games In OE-B Firmware

Now that u have OE-B installed, im sure the next thing on your mind is playing your favorite PSX games, so ill walk you through the install

Converting A PSX Iso Image To A PSP Eboot File (Taken From Psp's Tutorial)

Old Method For Making Eboot Files

I decided to make a new psx iso to eboot conversion thread because my old thread was to confusing and had alot of problems. Plus i foun this new nice and simple gui hat requires you to not look for an official psx eboot.

here are some features
* PSX images and EBOOTs are FULLY customizable (eg save file fixes) - even the gameboot picture can be changed
* EBOOT patching is quite fast - no more PSP Brew
* Conversion with a progress bar!
* ALL files are included - no more searching for elusive KEYS.BIN or BASE.PBP files
* MANY other features - such as ISO extracting from EBOOTs, Preview feature, EBOOT add/delete/extracting etc etc

First step is to download the new version of POPstation, u can find it HERE

Step 1) downloading and exracting
*Download and extract the files to any place on your computer
*Download (sorry you are going to have to look for psx isos yourself) or rip the psx game (id reccommend using alcohol 120%) you want

Step 2) Choosing your iso and setting up popstation
here is a screenshot of the popstation GUI it should help you

*click on the Browse button (should be in the red box) and find your psx image file on your computer (ex .iso, .bin, .img, or .PBP) and select it

*alright now select your output folder (this is the folder you want your psx eboots to go to after it finished converting) by click on select button (should be in the green box)

*now choose your GAMEID by simply clicking on the Slect button (should be in the blue folder), then a window should pop up with a list of psx games, simply choose your psx game and press "ok"

Step 3) Customizing your eboot
*simply click on the button (in the orange box) of the part you want to customized
-EX - if you want to change icon, click on the folder button (in the orange box), then a window should pop up, then you just find where the icon you want and press open.

Step 4) Converting
*after you are finish customizing, you can click the preview button (the one in the baby blue box) to preview what you done

*and if you are happy with what you done you click the Go button (the button in the pink box)
*your psx iso should convert into an EBOOT.PBP and KEYS.BIN, and transfer both those files into the output folder you selected

Step 5) Transferring the eboot onto your psp
*connect your psp, and open the psp files to the GAME folder
*create a new folder in the GAME directory of the psp and rename it to the PSX title you converted
*then go to your output folder and copy and paste the EBOOT.PBP and KEYS.BIN files in the new folder you created
*Now you can go onto your psp and play the psx eboot

Please note that this guide is a WIP (work in progress) and most of the info is pulled from other threads found on this site. any inaccuracies should be reported to me so i can make the corrections. im aslo open to suggestions for what to add since i doubt this guide is complete

You could update the popstation gamesave fix. There are gui type programs that help you do it, along with converting, and adding in images.

This is cool, definitely going to install when I get back from holiday. I'm assuming that you need a PS3 to D/L the official game to make the PSX emu work, which is a bit shit seeing that its not released here till march. Any workarounds to no PS3 access?

http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=60371

This so far is the best popstation converter I've used, so you should try to reference it into your material. It uses a ripped E-boot that only contains whats needed, so it means less space taken up by the thing as a whole. It also hex edits the E-boots for you by just finding the game you're converting, and clicking on the title. And last but not least, it can smack images onto your eboots.

(However, it still uses the hotshots golf 2 eboot, its just that all the content was ripped out of it except for the much needed ps1 emu files.)

hopefully when this guide is done, we'll only need one sticky. this section is already crowded with stickies, so im trying to minimize them the best i can. which is why alot of the OE-A/B how to threads havent been stuck yet. its all being combined into one thread so people can find the info all in one place. and dont worry, ill give credit where its due

I don't see to need to create a big complicated post just to explain how to fix the saves problem in multi-discs games, since all the latest Popstations versions already fixed this.

Also I have to thank Julie for all the hard work she does to help us, you are great Julie! That's why I love you!!! n.n

Default Ultimate OE-A/B Custom Firmware Guide (WIP)

I have a quick question, since its not possible to downgrade to 1.5 from FW over 2.71 (at least to my knowledge) Im guessing that I wont be able to downgrade back to 1.5 from 3.02 OE A/b... just in case I want to go back to 1.5 FW.

EDIT: Wow never mind... you can tell Im new at this... Its called Recovery Files!
