Default Custom Firmware FAQ Guide

I've got 3.40oe-a now, but I used to use video9 and so forth to convert my videos. I don't still have to do that, do I?

I can't seem to find any info on playing videos or homebrew in 3.40, just random questions here and there.

thanks, that's what I thought.

This is my second PSP in a long time, when I had my first one, there was barely a few homebrew programs and having 2.5 (or something like that) meant you were screwed And there was no Sony support for playing Video too:lol:

So, I guess, I can play videos the same way as a PSP with Sony's FW, just by putting them into the VIDEO folder, in the root folder of the drive? Which is MP4's and AVI?

Also I got PSPlayer to work when I setting the kernel to 1.50 in the recovery menu of 3.40oe-a and putting the PSPlayer files in the GAME folder. I guess, if the kernel is set to 3.40, you put the PSPlayer in the GAME150 folder in the root folder for the drive?

all right cool, I appreciate it. I should've tried that since I have a shortcut on my desktop to the 100MNV01 folder, I thought I had read somewhere that I wouldn't need MP_ROOT anymore after putting a custom FW on.

you dont need the MP_ROOT,
Just put them in VIDEO, and with that, you can also make sub menu folders for them, and put those inthere, all you lose is icon support

okay, here are my findings. BOTH folders work, both are accessed when you click on the VIDEO XMB icon. Yes, the thumbnails (THM) are not compatible in the VIDEO folder.

BUT after searching around, I found that the NEW Video9 (beta for 3.30 I think) makes jpg. for the thumbnail picture in the XMB. You could probably just make your own instead of using Video9, which made me install Netframework 2.0 and Video9 seems to be full or new features and junk/ads.

The properties of the jpg. that Video9 made for the icon/thumbnail in the VIDEO folder are:

160 x 120 JPEG (the size was 4.97 KB, but I doubt that matters)

I hope that helps someone

Default Custom Firmware FAQ Guide

Can 3.03 OE-C/3.10 OE-A do everything DevHook can? And whats the difference between 3.03 OE-A / 3.10 OE-C and 3.40 OE-...? It looks like it can be taken off or downgraded back to 1.5 right?

Yes, custom firmware can do everything devhook can do. Custom firmware is combining all the benifits of 1.50 with all the features of the latest firmware. 3.03 OE-C is the easiest to customize icons, fonts, boot images, etc. 3.40 OE-A will support more psx games.

EDIT: Oh yeah, you can downgrade back to 1.50 if you are not happy with custom firmware for whatever reason.

Sweet thanks!

Okay.. you ARE supposed to be able to run emulators like SNES and Gen right from the 3.03 OE-C, aren't you? Should the 1.5 versions work? Or the ME versions? Maybe I missed something. Help?
