help on firmware update

i have a psp with v1.5 and i was wondering if ill update it and will be still able to play homebrew and which one is the best one to update to if its a good idea

you can upgrade from 1.50 to a Custom Firmware which has all the benefits of 1.50 and the newest sony firmwares. dark-alex.org is the central hub for all custom firmware.
I suggest you grab the 4.01M33 firmware from his site and install that. Once you have that installed you should install the 1.50 kernel patch which makes sure everything works 100%.

do i need something else like pandora battery or something like that if i have a 1.5 fw on fat psp

you have to install 3.52m33-3 first, then 4.01m33. Its all in the readme file.
