Default PSP Phats?

Apologies, but I'm an absolute newbie at this, so please bear with me. I'm getting a PSP phat today and I'm wondering if I have to have a Pandora battery in order to install custom firmware. I'll be getting one pre-owned, so there's a good chance it will have some older form of firmware on it, but I just want to make certain what I'll need to have in order to install everything. Thanks for any advice you guys can give.

Wait to see what firmware it on it, than go from there. Depending what firmware it is you may have a few options, if not pandora may be your only way.

if your lucky it will already be at 1.50, since you can mod it from there without a pandora battery...it will most likely not be, but id wait to see if it is...if its not then ud have to go with a pandora battery and a mms.

Default PSP Phats?

I have a PSP Fat and it has/had a 3.10 E** firmware.
I downloaded the 4.10M33 firmware files as mentioned in a YOUTUBE video, followed avery instructions and after running it there was a message on my PSP saying :
UNPACKING .... DONE
Please wait

It stops there and does nothing. What must I do to solve this problem ?
Thank you.
