Firmware Installed: 4.01M33-2 +1.50 kern

Default The Dark_Alex Custom Firmware Q&A Thread

If anyone has upgraded to 4.0 or 4.01 Official Firmware, you need Pandora's Battery to downgrade or switch over to the M33 version. See the link in my signature for a method to make your own battery if you don't have access to another PSP with custom firmware on it.

@lord mms: calm down man! 4.01 M33 *just* came out. it took a few months to have Dark AleX create a CFW after 4.00 Official Firmware came out so it may be a while yet.

Firmware Installed: CFW 4.01M33-2

Default The Dark_Alex Custom Firmware Q&A Thread

I have a quick question. I'm running CFW 4.01M33-2 and have NesterJ on my memory card. The program boots up fine, but fails to recognize any of my NES games. I'm pretty sure I put them in the correct folder. Am I doing something wrong?

Default The Dark_Alex Custom Firmware Q&A Thread

@taharazvi: first off, cool name. Secondly, we need to know what you were trying to run. If it was a homebrew item, you probably don't have the 1.50 kernel add-on installed and/or the program put into the GAME150 folder. Also, you may want to check on the recovery menu (hold R when turning on the PSP) under "Configuration" and see if the homebrew is loading using the GAME150 folder or if it's in the GAME folder or what. I've set mine to the GAME150 and it works out great.

As a side note, you may want to change your user information to say "4.01 M33". it'll probably clear up a lot of confusion in other threads.

Alternatively:
If you had problems with the actual installation of the M33 firmware, and you are on the official firmware version 4.01, you're screwed. You need Pandora's Battery to downgrade to 1.50 FW or if you use Dark Alex's "Despertar Del Cementario", you can directly switch over to 3.90 M33. Check out my signature for more info on Pandora's Battery.

Firmware Installed: 4.01M33-2 +1.50 kern

Default The Dark_Alex Custom Firmware Q&A Thread

@metal studz: Long story short, Pandora's Battery is a UNIVERSAL UNBRICKER for all past, present, and future PSP's. Dark AleX came up with a way to switch a PSP over to CFW without reverting back to the 1.50 FW using the Pandora's Battery apparatus and calls it Despertar Del Cementario. This program goes on your memory stick (explained later) and, if done correctly, will turn your PSP into a CFW running one. I believe the latest one gives you 3.90 M33. Since I've got a fat PSP, I never really researched the limitations of a slim but there is also another program you can investigate that Dark AleX created called Time Machine. it's in beta, last time I checked, but rumor has it that it can make slims have a 1.50 kernel.

Pandora's battery consists of a modded battery (do-it-yourself project or buy one online) so it is in "service mode" and a memory stick that must be a certain size that you run a couple programs on to transform it into a "magic memory stick". It's much simpler than most people make it out to be but any more discussion of this can take place in the pandora's battery thread in my signature. Midian stays on top of the guide and updates it as the need arises.

@barnsey: First off, nice avatar. secondly, everything is as it should be. Just to be sure, check in your system information and see what FW it displays. If it's what you were trying to install, success!! If not, well then you've got a problem.

@bdavis6480: What you need to upgrade it to 3.90 M33-anything is only the update, which can be downloaded off of Dark AleX's website. What you need to upgrade to 4.01 M33 is the official firmware for 4.01 (check sony's psp website) and the custom firmware 4.01 M33 (go see Dark AleX).

Any update (no matter which way you meant to update) needs to go in X:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE where "X" is the name of the memory stick as it shows up when you connect to the computer. Alternatively, since you have a version that is later than 3.80 M33, you can go to the system update icon and select to update your PSP that way. before you do that, you may want to check in the recovery menu (hold R on start-up) that the system update goes through Dark AleX's server rather than Sony's.

After that update is done, and assuming you have a fat psp as opposed to a slim version, update to the 1.50 kernel (once again, at Dark AleX's website). You need a copy of the 1.50 FW downloaded (Sony website) and place it at the root of the drive while named "150.PBP". it should look like this "X:\150.PBP". Put the 1.50 kernel add-on downloaded from DAX in the previously mentioned UPDATE folder and run it!

To reiterate: download the 3.90 M33 or 4.01 M33 resources, put them in the UPDATE folder, run it in the game section on the PSP. download the 1.50 kernel add-on resources, put the add-on in the UPDATE folder and 150.PBP on the root of the memory stick, run it in the game section on the PSP. all update resources can be deleted after installation with no harm to the PSP.
