To ericdiaz98:
Are you sure you want to go through with this? I am armed to the teeth and ready to defend my homeland (i.e, Nintendo). Back down now or I will be forced to prove that Nintendo and the DS rule the world.

Well it is...there making it out to be way more then it really is good for in reality, there isn't really many good reasons to have a touch/dual screen. |

Overall, I think the psp has a major upperhand.
In terms of looks, which will attract the customers who are looking at them both side by side in game shops the psp wins by a massive margin. It looks so sleek and this is what obtains it a lot of buyers.
Going in depth, the additions the psp has like playing movies , wireless internet possibilities, viewing photos is what drove me to want a psp and of course the lovely lcd screen to view it on.
It also looks very expensive and well woth the money |

| This guy has a little bit of a point, though. The DS is not quite as good as the PSP, but is $100 cheaper. Also worth the money. Sony is never going make any games anything like Mario, Kirby, Zelda or Fire Emblem though, which is why I own both systems. No offense meant to anybody.

Really good point there, the one thing that I think the DS has on the PSP is Nintendo brand games. There are a lot of really good games that won't be on the PSP.
However, the games that ARE on both the PSP and the DS are MUCH better on the PSP.

PSP vs DS
True the psp is sleeker, sexier, and has better graphics than the ds, but the ds has innovation and funtionality (if they actualy can incorportate the touch screen into their games right). they both have their pros and cons and if they were aiming at the same targets the psp would probaly win.(no offense keep reading) The truth of the matter though is simple; they dont have the same target. The DS is aimed at younger audiences, hence cheaper, a bit more durable, simpler and more young age oriented games, and new 'innovative functions' to keep the toddlers entertained. While the PSP is designed to attracted the older audiences, seducing us with its sexy sleek design and gorgeous graphics and games designed for more mature audiences.
The past few system wars, no further back than when sony entered the ring, were fought valiently by each competitor with a casuality or two, i.e. sega dreamcast, but they really havnt been true system wars. Not since the SNES vs. Genesis, Gameboy vs. Gamegear wars have they been true. Point being that their all aiming at different people. Nintendo hitting children left and right. Sony hitting casual teens and adults. Microsoft (seemingly taking after sega in a way) is going after the more hardcore gamers.
Nintendo revived the gamming world after the Atari choked it with batches apon batches of crap games. Sega moves in on home gaming as arcades start losing prower. They take each other on, both in your hands and your living rooms equally matched. Gamegear falls short of the simpler Gameboy due to the heafty 6 battery requirment as Sega looses ground by pushing forward to fast, i.e. sega cd, 32x, saturn. As a reminder being first out of the gates isnt always good. Nintendo's flounder with sony gives birth to the Playstation. Playstation hits hard with the grace of a rino and a wide array of games. Nintendo kicks back with the kiddies with the N64 just below sonys aim. Sega makes a comeback with the dreamcast(brilliant system integrated a.i. and all) but is shot down in suspicion due to past failures thus sega falling in the line of duty within the hardware business. As Sega falls, Sony launches the PS2 and Microsoft joins with (what i feel is just beefed up dreamcast... compare controllers and all). Nintendo releases the gamecube again aiming below the competitors at the kiddies while being unchallenged in handhelds since the gameboy vs gamegear days. Now were coming to the next generation of combat starting off against the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, but the war hasnt truly started yet as the DS aims low at the young and PSP aims for the older.
Sorry for the ramble but my point is that nobody is meeting the others aim anymore. Sega tried and fell, Nintendo saw this and aimed lower and younger. Microsoft is still a baby at that gamming spotlight and probaly wont make much ground till the xbox360.
but if you ignore all that. my opinion is that the PSP is ahead right now with better games and overall funtionality due to Nintendo not using the DS's full potential and make decent games for it. But then agian sony is also halfassing it right now too... the psp is underclocked at 222Mhz with its current lineup of games. |
