Alright i was bored and decided to create a thread on XMB Customization, ex fonts, gameboots, icons, xmb waves etc.

Disclaimer! All these XMB Customizations flash FLASH0, so there is a small chance of bricking, recommended for CUSTOM FIRMWARE PSPs, I'VE DONE ALL THIS ON MY 3.03 OE-C SO IM NOT SURE IF IT WORKS FOR OTHER FIRMWARES

XMB(Xross Media Bar or the psp's menu) Customization

Description
*I uploaded and decided to share all my xmb customization files for ya'll

Custom XMB Waves

Instructions
ONLY works on 3.03 OE and 3.10 OE psp's

Step 1) copying the files over
*Download my pack (double click on the wave pic)
*open up and copy the contents of "Wave Flasher.rar" into your GAME150 folder
*open up and copy the contents of "XMB Waves Pack.rar" to the root of your memory stick

Step 2) running the wave flasher
*go on your psp run the wave flasher (screenshot here)
*on the wave fasher menu pick out a wave you want and press "x"
thats it just keep trying out different waves until you find one you like enjoy =)

Custom XMB Themes

more 60x34 bitmaps backgrounds
Instructions

Step 1) copying and creating necessary files
*download (double click on the pic above) and extract the contents of "background flasher.rar" to the GAME folder
*create a new folder in the root of your memory stick and rename it "BMP"
*go onto recovery mode and set the GAME folder on 1.5 kernel

Step 2) picking out and setting up your backgrounds
*backgrounds MUST be 60x34 pixels, must be 6,176 bytes or less
*pick out 12 backgrounds with those requirements above
*rename the backgrounds 01.bmp, 02.bmp, 03.bmp, 04.bmp, all the way to 12.bmp and place them in the BMP folder you created in the root of your stick

Step 3) Running the flasher
*go on your psp and run the theme flasher (screenshot here)
*the flasher will automatically start creating and flashing
*KNOWN BUG - if the flasher is still flashing after a minute, turn the psp off and run it again, it should work the second time
enjoy your new theme =)

Custom XMB Icons

Instructions
*this one is going to take a while ill finish this on tomorrow
DOES NOT WORK WITH 3.10 OE

Step 1) Setting up the XMB Icon Flasher
*download(double click on pic above) and copy the contents of "Icon Flasher.rar" to your GAME150 folder
*if you already have a custom topmenu_plugin.rco skip step 2)

Step 2) Creating your own custom topmenu_plugin.rco
*download this and extract the files to your computer
*pic out 30 icons, some included in the download in my pic
*To make your icons they need to be in the following format
-64x64 pixels (leave about three pixels of space or it will get cut off)
-BMP format
-8-bit color a.k.a 256 Colors a.k.a Indexed Mode
-Transparency is determined by the first palette color
*They also need to be named in the following format:

1.bmp -------> Main Settings Icon
2.bmp -------> Photo Icon
3.bmp -------> Music Icon
4.bmp -------> Video Icon
5.bmp -------> Game Icon
6.bmp -------> Network Icon

7.bmp -------> Network Update Icon [IS NOT CHANGED/NECESSARY]
8.bmp -------> USB Connection Icon
9.bmp -------> Video Settings Icon
10.bmp -------> Photo Settings Icon
11.bmp -------> System Settings Icon
12.bmp -------> Theme Settings Icon
13.bmp -------> Date and Time Settings Icon
14.bmp -------> Power Settings Icon

*place all 30 icons in the "Mac-OS-XMB" folder
*double click my-xmb.cmd, a command prompt window should pop up
*it should automatically start creating your topmenu_plugin.rco
*after its finished the command prompt window should be green, if its red it did not work, and u should try agian
*your topmenu_plugin should be in the parent directory (where ever your Mac-OS-XMB folder is located)

Step 3) flashing your topmenu_plugin.rco
*copy and paste your topmenu_plugin to the root of your psp memory stick
*run the flasher program (screenshot, press "o" to flash your icons
enjoy your new icons =)

Custom Gameboots

Gameboot pack
Instructions
*I use uflash to flash my custom gameboots and custom fonts

Step 1) Setting up Uflash
*Download(double click on the pic above) and copy the contents of "Uflash.rar" to the root of your psp memory stick

Step 2) Setting up your Gameboot
*you can find a bunch of them here at psphacks
*gameboots should be a PMF file and if not already named gameboot
*place your gameboot in this directory ms0:flashfiles/gameboot

Step 3) Flashing
*go on your psp run th flashmod app,
*on the uflash menu select the gameboot menu and flash it
enjoy your new game boot =)

Changing the XMB menu names

Instructions
Step 1) Downloading the program
*download(double click on the pic above) and extract the files to your computer somewhere
*find your topmenu_plugin.rco, you can use one you created, or one you found off the net, or if you want to find the one on your psp go on recoverymode, turn on the flash0 usb, and it should be in ms0:vsh/resource
*place your topmenu_plugin.rco in the same directory as the RCO Swapper v2 program

Step 2) Changing the Names
*here follow the instructions on this screen shot
*after you are done press the Swap it button on the bottom of the program window
*go back to the directory or folder you placed the RCO Swapper v2 program and your topmenu_plugin.rco at, and *follow step 3) of the Custom icon Tutorial
enjoy your new menu names

I bricked using UFlash for my font. Then again, maybe 3.10 OE can't handle fonts just yet, like icons.

are u serious? i didnt know that i dont have 3.10 oe-a, ill change the thread around to use flash agent then since its 3.10 supportive

Very nice But I would edit the Flashing part to a "manual " way. Those Uflash and Xflash and etc etc.. Brick a lot of people, nothing is safer than doing it manually. that would avoid people coming and saying I BRICK etc.

By the way PSP if you want you can add my waves to your PACK of 'waves' (My signature) just letting you guys know since I have no copyrights or anything like it.

That's cool. I didn't fuck with icons because I knew there wasn't an X-Flash release for 3.10 yet, and everyone said custom topmenus didn't work. I figured fonts did because it wasn't specifically mentioned.

My only gripe was the whole downgrade back to 1.5 then move to 3.10 again. Is there any way to brick recover from 3.10 back into an OE?

For instance, the brick recovery folder I had had a DATA.PXAR for recovering into 3.02 OE-A, but it didn't work, because it gave me sceIoOpen() error or some odd. I got the same problem a second spin around, so then I came on here and grabbed the folder. I know the flasher clears out flash0, so maybe it's in the flash1?

and virus nine, why dont you try the recovery folder and the recovery option in the recovery mode?

recovery mode, or if you can find an untouched 3.03 oe-c firmware dump, and copy the flash0 to the flash0 usb,

also i think flash agent has a recovry menu that brings back the original stuff

or just back up your original topmenus, waves and stuff, or reflash the original stuff

Lol PSP you got me excited I was expecting to see a hex editing key for the custom XMB waves but nonetheless great guide. This will make many people very happy.

Yes, I found a way to recover back into an older version of an OE custom firmware. All that you need to do is either downgrade/upgrade to 3.03 OE-C or find an untouched 3.03 OE-C dump, make a backup copy of the flash0 in the flash0 USB mode, and then if you brick on 3.1 OE-A then all you need to do is copy the 3.03 OE-C flash0 over the 3.1 OE-A flash0 and it will give you the restore (blue screen) that asks you to press O and re put in your info and wallaa your on 3.03 OE-C again.

huh that could be a couple things like, the gameboot might bve bad, or its a plain black one
