If you have been to my faceplate/skin site lately, you have probably noticed that it is the same stuff that was there since like a month ago. I am out of ideas! Please submit me some new and fresh (easy helps too) ideas so i can update the site. Also send me some requests if you want to.

  4. #4 HOW TO: Customize your PSP's Bootsound

This is a step by step tutorial on how to customize your PSP's bootsound.

Warning: Use of this program could brick your psp. While it is unlikely when used correctly, all modifications to the psp's internal flash carry a small risk. Please use with care, PSPHome takes no responsibility for any damage you cause your psp. It's recommended that you use custom firmware when installing this, but it also works with 1.50 PSPs. This may also disable Popstation for PSX gameplay.

    Step 1
Download the Custom Bootsound Creation: Click here to download Custom Bootsound Creation

    Step 2
Extract the files and run the PSPMenuEdit.exe. On the right menu it says 'Edit Coldboot Startup Sound' Click on '...'. Now select the opening_plugin.rco that came with the package. Then hit Extract Audio. It will extract the ColdBoot.vag in the same folder that opening_plugin.rco is located in. This is the original PSP Sound file.

    Step 3
Run MFAudio.exe and open ColdBoot.vag with it. Now for Output, select WAV and choose the spot to save it to. Run The newly formatted WAV file in a sound player. Sounds like the PSP opening sound right? It is!

    Step 4
Get the sound that you want to be your bootsound, and make sure it is in 16-Bit WAV format! If it isnt in 16-bit WAV format, then get a converter for it or it won't work! MFAudio only supports 16-bit.

    Step 5
Bootsound MUST be NO MORE than 4 seconds long, and NO LESS than 1 second long, or it will not work and if you flash it, you may brick!

    Step 6
Once you get your 1-4 second 16-bit WAV sound, go into MFAudio and import it, then export it as a VAG.

    Step 7
Now open up PSPMenuEdit.exe and load the opening_plugin.rco that came with the package. This time hit 'Import New audio' and navigate to your .vag file that was converted. Rename it to coldboot.vag and import it. The opening_plugin.rco is now patched with your sound, copy it to your ms root (X:\opening_plugin.rco).

    Step 8
Now you need to flash it to your PSP. Download PSPset 0.9:
Click here to download PSPset 0.9

    Step 9
Once downloaded, place PSPset and PSPset% folders into:
X:\PSP\GAME150 if you have 3.02 OE/3.03 OE PSP.
    X:\PSP\GAME if you have a 1.50 PSP.

(X is the letter of your PSP drive)

    Step 10
Disconnect the USB and do the following:
    - Turn on your PSP
    - Connect your AC Adapter
    - Run PSPset 0.9 from GAME -> Memory Stick -> PSPset 0.9

    - Select "firmware tweaks"
    - Select "change bootsound"
    - Select "flash opening_plugin.rco"
    - It will flash your PSP with your boot sound

    Step 11
Restart your PSP and you'll hear your custom boot sound!
