Final Fantasy 8 for a change...
OK, so maybe someone can help me with getting FF8 to run.
I've been using Popstation GUI to create an EBOOT from my CDs using a number of different disk IDs, yet the game will not run. I try to run the game using the popsloader for 3.72 (reported to be the most stable for this game), and 3.71.
The game doesn't freeze the system, but it just gets stuck on a black screen after the splash screen, and will not respond to any button presses except the home button.
Any ideas? In terms of creating the EBOOTs, I used the .IMG file that is on the retail CD itself. I noticed other games don't have this track visible. Is that my mistake? Can I not use the .IMG file on the disk itself?
Any help would be great.

**UPDATE**
Well it seems I can never be stopped short of achieving my goals.
First off, I'm sorry for writing so much, I get carried away. Second, if you haven't had issues playing final Fantasy VIII then, A- you are very lucky, B- this thread does not pertain to you. If you have, then carry on reading.
The whole idea behind the fixing of this unbelievable game has come down to the game ids. You know you've tried so many, then only to find out later on it doesn't work. I don't know if you have ever tried SLPS-01222, but this one truly fixes it, in the sense of no more freezing. However(), this lead to, once again, another problem. Between screens the game would slowdown tremendously. This would also occur when drawing/casting magic. This was very annoying. I stuck with it, got sick of it, tried a new id, then went back to freezing.....finally gave up and went to my Xbox 360. Several months later I'm back to playing this game and I have finally found out a "true" fix.
I'll cut to the chase. Use the SLPS-01222 game id, but this time........ready........
don't use any compression! When making the EBOOT.PBP use a compression of 0, nada, and....Whoa la! Fix-o-mingo, it will now work! I have been playing since this find and it hasn't froze once, because the game id is SLPS-01222 and it never slows down due to the fact that its not compressed. Well, get back to it. Start playing Final Fantasy VIII again, lag/froze/broken/frustrated free!

Thanks, but that didn't solve my problem. I used that game ID with 0 compression and get the same results. Nothing loads past the splash screen, but I can still use the home menu.
Any other ideas?

Final Fantasy 8 for a change...
Actually, I've uncovered a greater problem which may be related to how I am making the EBOOTs, since another one I created doesn't work, either.
I have 3.80 m33-5, and have Popsloader, with all of the firmwares including 3.71 and 3.72.
I made my FF8 EBOOT using Popstation GUI, from the .IMG file on the disc (good, mint condition original disc). The program reports no error in the EBOOT creation.
Likewise, I made a multidisc EBOOT of my Chrono Cross CDs (again, mint retail discs), and this was made successfully, according to the Popstation GUI program.
On the XMB, the added icons and backgrounds show up. I can load the game, and have for both of the above games using 3.80, 3.72 and 3.71. The PS system splash never displays for either of them... it just hangs at a black screen. And, as I said before, I can still use the home button, but it is the only one that responds.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I think the problem is in how I am creating my EBOOTs, but the program says I'm making goo EBOOTs. This is frustrating!

Try using something like cdrwin to copy your disc, instead of the file format being an img it will rip as a .bin, am not sure if it will fix your problem but i've had a lot better luck w/ my created eboots this way. Good luck

you probably did the same thing i did and took the .img file right off the ff8 cd, you cant do that, the playstation never read the image file, it read the other 2 files on the disc first. you need to use a program like alchohol 120 to rip the whole cd to iso, im trying it now and ill follow up

Final Fantasy 8 for a change...
well i had problems with my games working depending on what iso maker i used
if i used magic iso it slightly over compressed the files. so try a diffrent iso maker like the one in the core data folder of autopopstation 4 autopopstation 3 is best for eboots i feel.

I used to run FFVIII on 3.52 M33 and it never had any problems whatsoever. so if you had a PB you could just install 3.52 if you really wanted to play it with no issues.
