Run it under a different pops, see if that helps. Could also be a bad RIP/eboot

What ripper program are you using? I have imgBURN and has not given me any problems converting my discs to ISO/IMG. Check your CFW and your popstation and also google for compatibility list. I use the current version of PSX2PSP and I already played 10 of my PSX games on my 3.80 m33 CFW and this is for the fat PSP. No problem so far, I also have the rare copy of Jojo's bizaare adventure for PSX and I'm playing it on my PSP

Had the same issue. Ripped my files using IMGburn. The problem is with the pops version. On the site that tells you what versions of pops work with the game...not sure of the link. Its gamerspress.com or something. Anyway on their chart it said that 3.71 worked if i remember right....its been a while since i messed with it. I think i got it to work with 3.72? i know i that was the only version chrono cross worked with and i think FF9 works with that version of pops as well.

here's the list PSX on PSP Compatibility List - TheGamersPress also if you have problems try setting the compression to 0 all the psx converters use a a default max compression
