Question Ff8?

i really liked to play FF8 on ps1 when it was the latest game
now i wonder why nobody talks about it anymore allthough it was pretty darn good, atleast according to my humble opinion.
so i wonder off in the wonderfull world of pspmodding and emulatin'
and i'm can't help myself thinkin why i can't seem to find anything on FF8
is it out there somewhere or are there multiple obstacles to convert and/or run it smoothly what so ever
plz let me know if u guys have anything on this topic
thx and greatly appreciated

i can't help you with the converting, but i can tell you this

FF8's arrival was overshadowed by the debut of the Dreamcast. and coupled with the fact that people(the mainstream) were finally jumping on the FF bandwagon, preferred to buy the cheaper FF7 than the brand new game at the time.

or if you don't buy that, then it's probably cause no one cared about the game at the time, really.

ADDED: I also wanted to point out that I bought it the night it came out cause my friend really wanted his dreamcast. He also ended up not playing the DC for FF8. *sigh* i miss that game so much. every time i'd play it to the end, something happens. (it gets stolen, mem card gets stolen, game erases itself) things like that

Screw FF7...FF8 is so much better....and longer. Better cut scenes and story. Plus the ability to anywhere with the ragnarok at the end of the game. And all the side quests and the card battles and GFs....

Theres tons of info on FF8. What do you need to know about getting it on the PSP?

You can use any .iso, .bin ect to eboot converter (I enjoy RS-GUI PopStationMD v3.00 for multiple game disks) then PSX on PSP Compatibility List - TheGamersPress to check which pops you need to use if any.

Mito FF8 was a good game, but i do not believe it compares to 7!

also at the end of the game u may be able to fly anywhere with ragnarok but u can not enter any cities as they are all in a 'different time zone' or some shit.

But in 7 u can fly everywhere in the highwind, and enter every city. even gain access bak to midgar by finding the sector 5 key in bone village on the northern continent.

Go FF7.

and i agree with the poster before me on which gui to use in converting to eboot.

FF8 can be a little annoying to get working steadily on the psp. so check out the compatability wiki which the last poster also included.

It will tell u how to get it working.

If u need any more help with an explanation then just let us know

Yeah, I'm having problems with FF8 myself now. After using my game discs and turning it into a multi-eboot started playing the game from original flash which I'm using 5.00m33-6 now. After playing the game I come to a boss fight and I'm like okay lets use scan and find a weakness. Boom game freezes. Okay, use 4.01 pops and game freezes when I use draw. Okay after that try 3.90 and game freezes on some of the limit breaks.......Alrighty....Used 3.80 pops and bam...use scan and it freezes...You gotta be kidding me?
*sits patiently for Sony to get off their bums and put up FF8 on PSN*

EDIT: After using google and reading a lot I have found a guide on how to make Final Fantasy VIII to work on about what I would say be 90%.
Official Final Fantasy VIII Help Thread - MaxConsole Forums

Still doesn't work 100% but heck 90% is better than not at all.

Default Ff8?

have your disc images ready (iso, img, bin, whatever)

put popstation_md folder in your c drive

put your custom pic1.png icon0.png pic0.png boot.png icon1.pmf and snd0.at3 (popsdb.com is good for these if you need them) as well as you disc images in the popstation_md folder (call the disc images disc1.iso disc2.iso etc for all 4 for simplicity's sake - if they are img or bin files call them disc1.img disc2.img or disc 1.bin and disc2.bin etc)

load cmd.exe

type this in (don't type in *press enter* <- actually press the enter key when you read that):

cd..*press enter*

cd..*press enter*

cd popstation_md*press enter*

popstation_md.exe "Final Fantasy VIII" "Final Fantasy VIII" "Final Fantasy VIII" "Final Fantasy VIII" "Final Fantasy VIII" SLPS02180 SLPS02180 SLPS02180 SLPS02180 SLPS02180 4 4 4 4 disc1.iso disc2.iso disc3.iso disc4.iso*press enter*

leave it till it says it's done and in the popstation_md folder you should have your EBOOT.pbp (you do not need the keys.bin you must leave that in there). if your discs were not isos they were bin or img or whatever make sure you dont type out disc1.iso etc you have to change the iso bit of that above code so it matches with what type of disc image the ones you are using actually are. also you can change the 4 4 4 4 bit, that's the compression level for each disc so you could make it 9 9 9 9 if you like but tbh once you get past 4 in my experience the amount it compresses it by doesn't make much difference at all.

that should be it, it should work. sorry if my English is crappy in places lol.

I hate using PSX2PSP like that thread tells you to, it makes your 80x80 icons turn out with two PS borders in my experience, plus it's easier and quicker to type the above out when you know what you are doing it's easy, just remember to type in one extra gameID and title at the beginning for the main ID and main game name. I've not had any problems with my Final Fantasy games and MGS, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Resident Evil 2 all made this way.
