So a couple of hours ago I decided I wanted to play PSx games on my PSP as I never owned any Sony systems aside form my PSP. I have been Googling and searching and so on and so forth for the better of 3 hours. Still I get issues and can't even turn on the emulator itself... I must be doing something wrong or I'm missing some detail, so here are my specs and error.

PSP-1001
Firm: 5.XX (I'm not sure how to check it)
I've lost my UMD games so I changed the setting in my recovery to M33 - No UMD.
Trying to use PSx-P Alpha 2.
The error I get is: 80020148

When I searched for the error the solutions I found did not help.

I've tried setting it to play in PSP/GAME150 with no luck, changed the flash settings to use 1.5 kernel and the 5.XX, still the same error.

Oh and all the files for the PSx-P A2 are now located in PSP/GAME/*

Any ideas? I'm at a total loss here...

Stuck at a black screen when I load the eboot. So unless it takes a while to load something is wrong. I'll try this again another day, when I'm not falling asleep and I have my new glasses...

Got it working, you forgot to mention you needed to get Popsloader...
