Wowza!

This place has taken a battering by spam bots, I had implemented so many security questions and limitations that I thought that would do the trick, but nope we still got hammered!
I have revised the security questions again, but could really do with a hand adding more questions to the site, they need to be simple so people can answer them but hard enough so a bot can not!

I have spent the last few hours sifting through and deleting spam, banning users and tweaking vbulletin, plus added a couple of plugins that should again further help with the spam problem.

I have finally resolved alot of issues I had which now gives me time again to devote to the site, so please do let me know if there is anything you would like me to add or change on the site.

I am also looking for more helpers on the site to help keep the content flowing on the site, as I have said before I will happily pay the right candidate, but im looking for someone to show they are worth paying, get started filling quality content / news and I will happily come to an arrangement where its worth your while!

I am going to recruit my brother here who will hopefully help with content and keeping things flowing aswell but would really like to get this place running as a community again.

Spam Prevention - Registered / Active Users

As some of you are aware we have been the target of a decent amount of spam recently mainly due to Re-Captcha & other image verification methods...

As some of you are aware we have been the target of a decent amount of spam recently mainly due to Re-Captcha & other image verification methods being easily solved by spam bots.
To help combat this we have had to introduce a few measures that will make the moderators life easier by making it harder for spam bots to get through, however in doing this we have had to place a few restrictions on new users.

Registered Users are now restricted from creating & commenting on blogs, You can still view them but restrictions will only be removed once you are promoted to Active User status.
Registered Users must now answer a security question before posting a thread, This requirement will only be removed once you are promoted to Active User status.
Registered Users that has been registered for less than 7 days or have less than 5 posts will have advertising shwon.
Registered Users are automatically moved to the Active Users group once they have been registered for more than 7 days & have made atleast 5 posts.

We hope you agree that these restriction levels are low enough for any member to reach to become an active member, but should be high enough to prevent spam bots.
We will also be working to create further Promotion Levels so that active members are rewarded for there activity in the very near future.

*Note: as this has only just been implemented, it will take the system a few hours to process and update your accounts*

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you would be up for writing articles for the site?

in short looking to keep the content flowing for PSP / PS Vita related news (something like what psx-scene.com do... news, hacks, firmware, updated guides etc..)
But strictly for just the PSP & PS Vita.

I'm looking to either pay a few people $50 a month or someone dedicated $100 or so. (this could vary and hopefully go up over time as the more content that flows, the more visitirs we get and the more revenue the site can generate.)

Let me know if your interested.

First off, sorry for the delay in sorting this out, I have had a rough few weeks but hopefully things are now slowly getting sorted.

I made a short list of the following users:

El Guapo
Feras
faustnero
diabolic-mind

As these were the only entries within the non-creative competition that have stayed active and I don't see that its fair that someone with 1 or 2 posts that only came to the site just to enter the competion should have the chance of winning.
there were a couple of others users that had a few more than 1 or 2 posts, but again there activity was almost nil.

Hopefully most of you agree with this decision ;)

I then used the site: Random Line Picker - Pick the Winner of Your Contest! to pick a line from this list at random.
After using this theme for the last 24 hours, it just desnt seem to gel right, its slightly over sized and a few things here & there dont really seem to click into place so........
I have decided to swap the theme to a new one.

This will go live once my payment for the theme has been verified and I can get my hands on the files and get it uploaded.

You can see a demo here: vBulletin 4 Skins
Its not a million miles away colour wise, but seems more clean and simplified ;)

Im looking at buying a PSP Vita to give away on the site from the proceeds of ad revenue the site has made.

Does anyone have any idea's on how we could do this?

e.g. just create a section e.g.. post in this thread to be entered into a prize draw.. (with a minimum post count to enter or just free for all.... but restrictions are they they must be an active member and not just post and run away...)
or based upon users submitting psp vita related content, reviews etc.. ?

Let me know your thoughts!

After being away for a few weeks on business I am back ;)

I noticed that due to a recent exploit discovered in vbseo the site had been redirecting users that came via google to a survey.
I have now patched vbseo & removed the redirect.
I have also fixed an invalid url redirect some users would have seen if logging in via pspmod.com and not www.pspmod.com, plus upgraded vbulletin & associated plugins to there latest releases to further secure the site.

I shall be working on the new theme over the next 48 hours and should have that complete and fully live on the site.

I hope to be more active on the site as from early next week and if there as anything I need to do that I have missed please let me know!

OK,
Im currently looking at how we can best split the PSP sections, without creating too many.. to make it easier for new comers to ask questions and to navigate the content we have.

My initial thought is to:

PSP Support
-PSP Troubleshooting (This will be populated from the PSP Modification forum & will be for general newbie issues)
-PSP Guides & Tutorials

PSP Modification (move content to PSP Troubleshooting & remove forum)

-PSP Firmware - (discussion on custom, upgrading/downgrading etc.. - This will be populated from PSP Software, Firmware, Plugins )
-PSP Homebrew & Emulation (merge homebrew & emulation forums)

So the forums will look like this:

Sony Playstation Portable
-PSP News
-PSP Discussion

-PSP Support
--PSP Troubleshooting
--PSP Guides & Tutorials

-PSP Firmware
-PSP Homebrew & Emulation

-PSP Hardware & Repair

-PSP Media
--PSP Games
--PSP Themes
--PSP Downloads

However do we need any other discussion area's of should PSP General Discussion be merged into a forum instead and do we need somehwere for software / applications or plugins?
