Just got a Vita running FW 2.06.

I'm just wondering here the hacking has come thus far on vita?

What's the possibility on playing PS1, PSP, PS2, and Vita games on the system?

What about emulators? Particularly N64... I've seen videos of people playing games like Mario Party, Mario Kart and Super Mario 64 which all looked to run flawlessly.

I've heard there is a hack for 2.06 coming out shortly.

Just wondering what things I can expect to be able to do with my Vita once it does happen. Thanks guys!

In the past week, my Vita has crashed over 10 times. It's kind of pissing me off. I have no clue why it's doing that either. Then it stays stuck and I have to wait for the battery life to die out to recharge it and use it again. Also, sometimes, while my Vita is turned off, it drains the battery life. Last night, for example, I wet to bed with half battery life, turned the power completely off, and this morning it was dead. This happens way too often and it's just really annoying.

I bet that got your attention otherwise you wouldn’t still be reading this would you...Ok let’s get back to the topic at hand. After speaking to one of the developers working on the next version of VHBL I have learned a little somewhat disappointing bit of news for some Vita owners.
As most of you know VHBL takes advantage of a vulnerability in different games to load a homebrew loader through the PSP emulator in the Vita. The problem that comes from this is that not all games are compatible with the emulator and doesn’t allow for the homebrew loader to function properly so it limits the available game exploits considerably. Now the big effect this has is that not all the games are available in all regions of the PSN. This is one of those games, the next version of VHBL will not be available in North America.
Now there is still no release date for this version of VHBL but I can assure you that there is a lot of work going on to try and find an exploit that will be available to more people. There are a lot of possible exploits that still need to be investigated but this takes time and I would like to remind you all that the developers have lives to live and pushing them for releases could have less than favorable results. So let’s all just be patient and see what happens and wait for the release. So stay tuned to DashHacks.com for all the latest info on VHBL and more.

Hello!

Im wondering if anyone else is having this same issue, and if they've found a workaround for it!

With Free Wifi (I'll use Queensland Rail and Maccas's as an example) that requires you to read T&C then hit an I agree button on a webpage before you can use the web - This is impossible on a Vita.

The vita connects, but doesnt get redirected to the page needed to click said i agree button.

So no free wifi for you

I've phoned sony support. They are aware of the issue. They cant tell us if its going to be fixed in any updated firmware. No ETA. No Workarounds. Thanks Sony! You'r so great! /scarcasm

2nd issue is Free wifi from my work.

I had to manualy set it up as the SSID is hidden. No wukkas with that.

But, same issue. It can get a connection, it can get an ip address, but it fails to connect to the internet.

I work in IT - ive tried setting it up manualy with an IP address, put in the DNS servers, there is no proxy needed for the work wifi.... Still the same issue.

Sony wants me to reset the router/access point. Not gunna happen. It works for every man and his dog, bar the Vita. The problem does not lie with the access point/router, it lies with the vita Itself.

And sony honestly cant understand why people choose to homebrew their systems? When they cant even get the simle shit right? Seriously >.<

So yes... anyone else having these issues? Workarounds found at all??

It works fine with my home WIFI tho. Go figure.

Le sigh :(

StarDrone Extreme on PS Vita

Whether hardcore gamers like it or not, mobile, casual, and free-to-play gaming are here to stay, and with them a horde of new monetisation options such as in-game purchases and level packs.

With the popularity of the App Store engulfing the likes of the 3DS eShop and PSN on PS Vita, many people have suggested that Nintendo and Sony need to be more flexible with the pricing of games on their respective stores, allowing developers to offer cheap additional content and free-to-play titles.

After PSN's slight stumble with Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, StarDrone Extreme has also failed in its attempt to bring casual pricing to the PlayStation Store. The game itself is entertaining enough, but there's no way we can condone its insistence on paying to skip levels.

A star is born?
StarDrone Extreme is like a curious mix of pinball and puzzler. You direct a ball as it rolls around in space, mopping up stars, collecting shattered gems, and aiming to reach the goal in the quickest time possible.

You do all this via nodes. If you touch and hold the screen near a node, your ball circles around it, allowing you to aim where you want to it fly off. Let go and the ball continues on its voyage, hopefully towards the mission's objective.

There are a few different missions, from grabbing every star to reaching the end post-haste. However, the real emphasis is on puzzling, as you throw the ball down narrow corridors filled with explosives that you need to avoid and coloured gates that you need to open with key cards.

There are loads of bonuses to collect, explosions to blast through, and destructive powers for your ball if you can bag yourself enough stars in quick succession. It's exciting at times, and there's plenty of variety in level design to keep the concept fresh.

Once you've worked your way through the game you may also want to go back and do it as quickly as possible to grab all the gold medals. It'll take you a while to get to this point, however, as StarDrone Extreme gets very difficult as you reach the halfway point. Those looking for a challenge will find one.

Drone
StarDrone Extreme isn't constantly entertaining, however. While the levels are always well-designed the gameplay itself sometimes becomes quite bland and repetitive.

The controls feel awkward at times. It can feel a little bit like finger Twister as you try to look through your digits to check out the map in the corner of the screen.

StarDrone's biggest flaw, however, is its insane greed. If you get stuck you can choose to skip the level for a price. Indeed, to unlock the skip feature at all will set you back an extra 79p. You have to pay for the luxury of paying.

If you're finding the going tough you have to pay more money to unlock the rest of the content - despite already having paid for it. The fact that the DLC costs the same amount as your average iPhone game makes it even more ridiculous.

StarDrone Extreme is a decent game, but its in-app purchases cast a dark shadow.

We've been blessed with a good number of enjoyable experiences on the PS Vita since its launch earlier this year. However, while keeping us entertained in the short term is all well and good, it's the long-term appeal of Sony's newest gizmo that will help the handheld pick up speed and much-needed sales.

To that end, Sony needs to keep the release roster hot and heavy, and with gorgeous Japanese adventure game Gravity Rush on the way to the US on June 12th and to the UK on June 13th, the summer is looking very bright indeed for the Vita.

Fortunately, we won't have to wait too long to get a taster of the Gravity Rush experience, for Sony has confirmed to Joystiq that a demo of the game will be made available via the PlayStation Store from May 29th for US gamers and from May 30th for we Europeans.

The game has already been available in Japan for a couple of months - under the name Gravity Daze - where it's received a considerable amount of acclaim from critics and fans alike.

For those not in the know, it has Silent Hill producer Keiichiro Toyama at the reins, and sees you control Kat, a young girl who's lost her memory yet gained the ability to control gravity.

Check out our hands-on with the game to find out more about this hotly anticipated adventure title.

Potentially compete with the Wii U

While Nintendo might be garnering headlines for its Wii U touchscreen controller debuted last year, Sony could have its own version already available - the PlayStation Vita.
David Reid from CCP Games has been speaking about his company's free to play game DUST 514 and how with the use of the PlayStation Vita's touchscreen, his company might be able to utilise it as a tablet-like game controller.
"Once you get your hands on the Vita, you can imagine it as a controller for your DUST experience. Suddenly you can think about all the things you can do with that screen."
He said that the company's current aims were to bring about similar applications to those of Call of Duty (CoD Elite) and Battlefield 3 (BattleLog) but that in the future, there were many more possibilities.
"Our first steps will be cohort apps - the idea of taking a certain amount of the [game's] admin on the go. But the opportunity is massive in terms of what could be on that screen while you're playing DUST 514."
It seems likely with the history of Microsoft and Sony following along behind Nintendo in terms of controller innovation - motion sensing anyone? - that Sony will incorporate this sort of controller scheme in the PlayStation Orbis as well. It would certainly provide a way for the PS Vita to extend its life throughout that of the next generation PlayStation console.
If you're having PSN problems, I feel bad for you son, but don't worry, it's only down for maintenance and it's set to come back online 2am Tuesday (tomorrow) morning.

According to the Sony PlayStation blog, the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita won't be available to you during the downtime, so if you want to go and play classic plank-sliding game Coolboarders, you'll have to wait until tomorrow to buy it. Also out of action are the account management and account registration sections -- bad news if you planned on signing up to the service tonight.

It also means that you won't be able to play online, unless you happen to already be signed in and remain so throughout the night -- if you are, you'll luckily still be able to earn all those achievements that mean so much to you. If you're not already online, you're going to have to wait until tomorrow before you challenge random 12-year-olds to gunfights in Call of Duty.

Thankfully, it's only down for maintenance, rather than due to a massive hack like the one that occurred last year, which saw the details of 70 million PSN customers get half-inched. And then later that same year with 93,000 accounts being hacked. Sony will probably be the first to admit 2011 wasn't a great year, hack-wise.

What the maintenance is actually for hasn't been made clear, but rest assured if it's anything particularly juicy, we'll bring you the full lowdown. It's more likely, however, that it's just a few server tweaks and hole-patching you'll probably never notice.

If you find yourself at a loose end this evening while it's down, perhaps simply try playing the same games offline, or maybe just have a lavender-scented bath and soak your troubles away. Better yet, draw me a picture of what you think the giant hive-mind of the PSN actually looks like and post it on our awesome Facebook page. The best ones might even win a much-coveted CNET UK badge.

However as you are reading I now have to be entertaining and informative. Curse you and your unending requirement for gaming news!

A clever spark posted a question on the EU PlayStation blog asking when Skype was arriving on PS Vita. Here is a lovely screen capture to fill up some space.

So there you go, Skype hopefully arriving on PS Vita by the end of of April, but you knew that already.

However, as you have waded through this waffle, here is a fact which hopefully you did not know: The word Arctic comes from the Greek word for bear (Ursa Major – “The Bear” is a northern constellation), and Antarctic comes from the Greek “anti”, meaning the opposite.
