Two new redesigned hardwares from Nintendo and Sony targeted for the holidays, but with less features.

Image:...

Two new redesigned hardwares from Nintendo and Sony targeted for the holidays, but with less features.

Last week, both company's surprised the gaming public by announcing two new iteration of their respective hardwares for the European market. On the Nintendo side, they've announced a brand new "redesigned" Wii SKU, that will come packaged with a Wii Motion Plus controller and Nunchuck, as well as two games, Wii Sports and Wii Party, set for release this October. So what have been redesigned you might asked? Well, according to the Official Nintendo Magazine, aside from ditching support for both GameCube games and hardware, the new Wii "is the same size as the current model." Meaning, nothings changed. In fact, it's even the same size as the old model.

Same goes to Sony's upcoming value-priced PSP. While you got to respect the fact that its a €99.99 device, the lack of wi-fi and the omission of on-board stereo sound is just ridiculous. Better save your money for the upcoming Wii U or PS Vita if I were you.

An unbricker battery compatible...

Source:Wololo

An unbricker battery compatible with the ta88v3 has been released recently, and scene dev Yoti uploaded a video demonstrating the tool. Read along…

Nowadays running a custom firmware on a PSP is not complex, no downgrading is required as both pro cfw and TN Hen run on the latest firmware, and people who want to install another CFW such as M33 just need to use the necessary tools.
But people who have joined the scene a bit earlier know that the biggest hack for the PSP was the pandora battery, where hackers discovered (with lots of work and a bit of luck) that the battery in the PSP was used not only to power the device, but also to enter service mode, so that Sony repair centers could quickly fix a broken flash or install a new firmware on a PSP. Coupled with a “magic” memory stick, this allowed hackers to create a very cheap downgrade/unbrick mechanism, and basically with a special battery and a special memory stick you could easily unbrick your psp, or install a custom firmware on it. I still have one of those, and it is the most convenient technique for installing a CFW on PSPs that support it. It is also extremely safe, because even if you mess up your flash, you have ways to rewrite it entirely, so there is no risk of brick, unlike recent CFW installation systems.
Sony quickly reacted and their new PSP models were not compatible with this Pandora battery anymore. The first model of motherboards to include a security against the Pandora battery was the Ta88v3, the doomed psp2000 model. This model was still compatible with the battery and could enter service mode, but the magic memory stick didn’t work anymore, so it was basically made useless. Further models (the psp3000) even added more security, rendering the battery itself useless.
Hackers Boryan and ErikPshat have found a technique to use a magic memory stick on a ta88v3, which is a big deal for those of us who are stuck with a bricked psp 2000…
The technique is described in this thread, and the result is shown in this video, made by dev Yoti (who has provided several updates for <del>PSARDumper </del>PSPIdent in the past) and showing the jigkick installing firmware 5.02 on a 6.38 <del>ta88v3</del> (correction, the psp in the video is a ta85v2, but Yoti guarantees that the results are the same on a ta88v3)

Although this is an impressive breakthrough, I’m going to ask people to not share any links on this, as this unfortunately relies on leaked data/hardware belonging to Sony, and is therefore clearly illegal. Feel free to discuss, but links to infringing material will be removed.

Quote:

There are now several months ago, VirtuousFlame and Coldbird had teamed up to develop custom firmware for HEN baptized PRO . After several updates, the two coders decided to expand the team to increase productivity. The team development now consists of four members: VirtuousFlame , Coldbird , Neur0n and NPT .

Since then, the Pro Team continues to work on his custom firmware for firmware 6.xx . Today Coldbird gives us, via his blog , details on the next update, the PRO-C . One thing is clear: users will be well spoiled ...

It's time for work VirtuousFlame to be this time in the center of attention. The developer begins, in fact, the development of a popsloader for Custom Firmware PRO .

What is a popsloader ?

A popsloader is a plugin which loads the POPS ( Playstation One Portable Station ) different firmwares . It is important to read some backups because each firmware has a POPS different, which means that compatibility is not the same with all firmwares . For example, a title may well turn on the POPS of firmware 3.52, and refuse to engage with that of 5.50, while another game will not.

The developer is currently working on support for the POPS of firmware 5.XX.

Coldbird finally announces that he is working on the other hand still on the network mode of Custom Firmware PRO-C . Despite his lack of time not making it available only during weekends , the developer continues to make improvements moultes so that it is the most stable and functional as possible.

This is something that looks very promising and confirm the skills and ambition of this team definitely did not stop surprising us and of course meet the love of the world underground.

Great work by the creators of PRO for the constant updates.Personally every PS1 game I've ran on any version of PRO I've used has ran flwaless..but more compatibility never hurts.Keep up the good work.

Yesterday I was contacted by HacKmaN, close friend of Total_Noob who worked with him on TN Hen. It turns out that HacKmaN is the one who released TN HEN for 6.39, after discussing with Total_Noob and making sure they were both ok with the idea. The reason this was released “so” late is that they initially had no plan to release their 6.39 exploit, but since some1′s exploit came up as part of the genesis competition, they decided there was no point in not releasing 6.39 Hen, using some1′s exploit.HacKmaN made the following additional comments:

- TN Hen for 6.39 is nothing more than TN Hen, adapted to the 6.39 exploit by some1. Nothing else was added or removed from the Hen, there was close to no additional work.
- Total_Noob and HacKmaN want to thank the following persons:

Now, the sad piece of news that came with this message (and, this was a surprise for me, as I never officially heard about this before) is that both Total_Noob and HacKmaN are now officially “out” of the PSP scene. Well, choice is always good I guess.
HacKmaN, Total_Noob, thanks for what you’ve done so far, and good luck for your future projects
So, err…was I the only one not knowing Total_Noob had officially decided to leave the scene? And what’s your opinion? Will that impact your choice for the next Hen you put on your console?
'PS Vita' could be the new name for Sony's Next Generation Portable (NGP), which is due out later this year. The name allegedly comes from an E3 pamphlet showing the portable with its new branding. There are also some domain names recently registered by Sony that appear to back it up, although nothing's been confirmed as yet. But is 'Vita' a good name for the device? Does the PSP brand really hold that many negative connotations that Sony would drop it entirely?

The evidence for this is some of the sketchiest I've seen, to be honest, but at least the image itself looks plausible:

Above: The pamphlet looks pretty official. We'll know for certain at E3 in one week's time. Woot!

However. Most of the comments around the net suggest most people immediately think of one thing when they hear the name. This:

Above: We jest, of course. Even though the machine is surely very low in fat, you probably shouldn't eat it

Sony shouldn't feel too upset that we've turned their gorgeous new machine into a Ryvita - we did give a similar treatment to a shedload of games. Twice. But there are some other connotations that they may have missed (if, indeed, this is the final name for the device). If you shorten the name to the traditional three-letter abbreviation, you get PSV, which I like, although it also sounds like a certain football team from Eindhoven. And finally, it's only one letter shy of being a word that's become almost synonymous with disappointing technology. Vista.

But then, if you shortened 'PSP2' in the way people did 'Black Ops' to 'Blops', you'd get 'PSPoo'. So surely anything's better than that. Thoughts?
In light of E3 2011 now is a good time to take a look at Sony's new handheld codenamed "NGP". The first dual analog gaming machine to hit the market. Packing a powerful quad core processor with 512MB RAM, 256MB VRAM and 5inch OLED screen, the "NGP" is sure to impress, however.

"According to French website 01net, Sony will be cutting the specs of its impending NGP device, the successor to the PSP. The basic, non-3G version of the NGP will now apparently have 256 MB of RAM as opposed to the originally reported 512 MB. The VRAM has also been halved, from 256 MB to 128 MB, 01net reports.

The French site was the first to reveal the code-name of Nintendo's next console, Project Cafe, so their sources can be taken with more than just a grain of salt."

At this point no one truly knows what kind of power the "NGP" will house in its little shell. Hopefully E3 2011 will shed more light on the subject.

I will be bringing real-time updates as the E3 Conferences progress, be sure to check on all news related to gaming here on pspmod.com.
