By the looks of it, your guide will only work if the memory stick has already been mspformat-ted so it's not really very complete. mspformat.exe is necessary to create the 256kb of space where you install msipl.bin. If you don't run it, msinst.exe x msipl.bin won't be successful.

Ah. Well, the mspformat doesn't work on my XP for some reason.

I'll go over to a friend's sometime.

Death985: are you running as Administrator? That's kinda required...

There is only one account on XP. Yes on that.

And I'm the Administrator account on Vista.

And if I need a admin password, I'll get that software my friend made forever ago on a floppy disk. Like the virus in Office Space. Only instead of money, it gives you the pass of the computer.

Got this same error, then went to accessories>command prompt, but instead of clicking on it, I right-clicked and selected "Run as administrator." No more error!
...I THINK it worked. What does it look like if it worked?

Edit: CONFIRMED. I used this method and have since successfully modded two PSPs with the resulting memory stick.

This won't work on vista. I've tried it many times with no success. Finially my friend brought his xp machine over and got one of the guides to work. It's because when you format the mem stick as fat the allocation units are to small to take MSIPL.BIN. The only other way to make it work is to get an xp machine that will run mspformat.exe as that program does not work on vista.

ok got it to work This is what I did
this part on windows xp

I formated on the PSP then ran the mspformat then used this command

format X: /fs:fat

the next part the usb mode kept disconnecting on XP so moved back to Vista for the rest

xcopy /KE ms\* X:\

msinst X MSIPL.BIN

remember x is your psp in windows explorer or my computer

Then it worked

This DOES work in Vista. Read my above post. You MUST run the command prompt program as administrator or it won't work. I did it exactly as the first post said to after opening command prompt from the accessories menu and it worked without a hitch.
