Default Easy Magic Memory Stick method - works on XP/VISTA.

Does not work in Vista for whatever steps some of the others used, but works fine in Vista on my computer using the method stated in the first post and the method I mentioned above.
All I'm saying is, if you're bummed that this isn't working on Vista and you don't have access to an XP computer, don't go downgrading to XP just to do this. It can work, so don't give up hope.

Default Easy Magic Memory Stick method - works on XP/VISTA.

Hello, I just wanted to confirm that this DOES work on Windows Vista and this is what I did.

1. Download the file provided by DrGamut

2. Extract the file straight to your C:\ and make sure all contents are in a folder called "MSM"

3. Click on Start > Run and type "CMD"

4. At the command prompt type the following:

CD C:\MSM

You will now see that the command prompt now says "C:\MSM>"...NOW!!! you can run the commands provided by DrGamut and you should have no problem with it, I did it without a hitch on Windows Vista Ultimate, as DrGamut noted, replace X for the letter of your PSP drive.

I hope that helps somebody, but I take no credit on this at all...ALL THANKS goes to DrGamut.

for all those people saying creating the mms in vista doesnt work, it doesnt ALWAYS work. i have vista and i got mine to work. i downloaded the msninst file. extracted it to C:\msinst. went into command prompt and typed this:
cd c:\msinst
msinst g msipl.bin where g is my psp drive letter, and voila. my mms was created. on vista. proving that it does work

...I THINK it worked. What does it look like if it worked?

Edit: CONFIRMED. I used this method and have since successfully modded two PSPs with the resulting memory stick.
You Sir, are one smart maddafucka. Pure genius. You answered the puzzle that has got me stuck for days!. May the gods bless you for eternity and provide you with fresh virgins daily.

Thanks to you I was finally able to unlock my PSP for the first time using 14749 TotalNewbieInstaller. RIGHT-CLICK, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

Let me use this post to ask a question...

If I made a magic memory stick with this guide and stick in a FAT PSP that is just brand new and a pandoras battery, It will work?

thanks.

Of course it doesn't work in vista, It simply cannot be done. Xp is the only way you can make a MMS at this moment in time.

Ok just to check something:
For those of you who have said it worked in Vista, are you running the English language version or a different version?
For those of you who have tried it and said it didn't work, can you tell me the full path of the directory you used?

First off I was fully able to make a mms with your guide, but this is what I did.
1) I extracted the file into a folder under C: Drive named msm
2) Opened cmd as an administrator
3) I typed in "format X: /fs:fat" in cmd and let it load
4) Then I typed in "cd C:\" and then "cd msm" into cmd
5) then I typed in "xcopy /KE ms\* X:\" into cmd
6) When that was done I typed in "msinst X MSIPL.BIN"
7) When it was done doing what it needed to do, like you said Viola!

That is exactly what I did. The only thing I am not sure if it is correct or not is my 6th step it says "to small reserved sectors", I am not sure if that is okay, is it? Also I am using Vista home premium English edition. Now I have a question for you, will this work for a slim psp OFW 3.73 and for a fat psp OFW 3.71, with a pandora battery of course? Also how can I reuse my memory stick, do I just format it on the psp? Thanks for your help!

I have, sorry, another question. When I opened my psp battery case there was a silver casing around the psp and like an idiot I took it off then realized the motherboard was in a different place, it was located at the top, so I solder the 5th chip and did everything else perfectly. When I inserted the pandora battery into the psp NOTHING happened, so my question is, was it bad that I took off the silver casing or did I do something else wrong and can I fix this. Thanks and sorry for so many questions!
