Default Easy Magic Memory Stick method - works on XP/VISTA.

EDIT: My previous guide was flawed and I apologize for anyone's wasted time. As far as I know the mspformat tool is /required/ to correctly partition the memory stick, and is not compatible with Windows Vista. If anyone knows of an alternate method that fully emulates the function of mspformat and works in Vista, let me know.

I know there's a billion guides already but I felt all of them were overcomplicated, redundant, and inflexible. So here's a super easy way to make a magic memory stick on XP with despertar v3 & 3.71m33-4 update.

Download: msm.rar (24mb).

Extract it and launch a command prompt (start -> run -> 'cmd'), then navigate to the extracted directory. Run these 3 commands (replace X with your memory card's drive letter):
  • mspformat X (If you are using your PSP's USB connection to write to the memory stick, you must disconnect and reconnect after this step)
  • xcopy /KE ms\* X:\
  • msinst X MSIPL.BIN

Viola!

Would you use that memory stick with 3.71m33-4 update on with a pandoras battery or do you need a different software???

Forgive the ignorance

So this allows you to make a Magic MS in Vista?

And extract to where, exactly?

Since I have OFW, have the Pandora Battery and just need the MS. :P

Doesn't matter where you extract it to, just make sure you can get there in the command prompt.

Yes, it works in Vista.

You don't need to understand it, just replace X with your PSP drive letter.

xcopy is a DOS copy command, that line just copies all the data to the memory stick.

You need to be in the msm directory at the command prompt. It contains msinst, msipl.bin, and the ms subdirectory.

So for example, if you extracted to C:\, your command prompt should read:

C:\msm>

I don't know how to produce that error.

Well, I put msinst and msipl.bin in the msm folder.
So this is it:

C:\msm\msinst J C:\msm\msipl.bin

They were in the msm folder together in my archive already.

But that should work, I don't know what is causing your error.
