New owner,Few Questions
I've been doing alot of reading around the forums lately, and I have few questions left to ask, hopefully I won't sound soo stupid :P
First of all I have a Slim&Lite PSP running 3.71 M-33 2 system,I want to update to the newer version but here are my questions :
- I've found a lot of great "how-to"s here on the site regarding the intallation of 3.80,my question is how do I apply the update,my understanding is that I have to install 3.80 M-33 first then update it,am I wrong ?
- I have installed a couple of themes on my PSP,all are .ptf files, will these still work when I upgrade to 3.80 or will they brick my PSP ?
those are the questions I have for now, hopefully once I'm finish with the updating process I'll have more questions
Thanks in advance for anyone who'll be kind enough to help. |

To go to 3.80m33 you need CFW 3.52m33-4 or higher, which you have.
Read the first part of this link http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-fir...ad-source.html (Sony Official Firmware Download Source)
Tells you how to update your firmware
Updates you can get from this link
Dark-AleX - PSP Developer
Don't forget to copy infor. from your magic stick to your comp. like games, themes, saves and music.
Format your disk in settings after updating.
Once your on 3.80m33 you can update from Network Update just make sure its set up in recovery mode. |

Thanks for the replies guys,I checked Dark Alex's site and found that he released the 3.90 M-33 CFW,so I went ahead with that instead, the themes I used on 3.71 M-33 2 are still working.
I have another problem though and I'm still looking through the forums for an answer, but I thought I'd also post here anyway,I've obtained a Tekken .cso image and I'm using it to play the game, but :
- when I ran the game for the first time,I got an error message which translates to "no UMD in drive",so I inserted a UMD and things are ok,but in the recovery menu of the M33 there an option for using different drivers, like the M33 driver - NO UMD - ,does this means I can use this and run the game without having a UMD in the PSP ?
- also, every time I start the game I get a message telling me that the Save data is corrupted, although when I check the save file using the save utility it seems to be ok,does this have anything to do with the region/name length of the iso ? or is it a different issue maybe caused by the 3.90 M-33 upgrade ? |

Usually I use M33 driver but I always have a umd in.Just gives me an extra game to play
Did you reformat your memory stick after updating
If your not that far in the game you could delete the save & start anew.
I doubt it has anything to do with the firmware,I'm also running 3.90M33 & you can also Install 1.5 kernel from Dark Alex site for your emulators. If you do the 1.50 update gets changed to 150 PBP & goes in the root not the update folder.

originally I didn't reformat the memory stick, when I did that I noticed that in the \MS0\PSP the folder is named GAME380,isn't it supposed to be GAME390 according to the same CFW ?
The reason I'm asking is because on the recovery menu there's an option that talks about Game folder being Game 3.90 or Kernel 1.50,so I was wondering.
The Save file itself doesn't seem to be corrupted, when I use the save file utility from the PSP menu I can see the save file normally, its just when I actually start the game that it tells me that its corrupted,if I quit and go back to the save utility the file still seems to be ok.
one last thing,I thought the 1.50 Kernel was something limited to the Fat PSP and not the slim ones,Am I wrong ? and if so can you point me to any threads where I can start reading about that ? |

Sorry just like rex922 said 1.5 kernel is limited to lite(thanks rex922 for pointing that out)Are you formating your MMS with your PSP in settings or with your comp. because if your CFW is 3.90 your 3.90 kernel game folder should be as well.Back up your data & try reformating as for the saves store them on the comp.,then start the game over, make a save, cancel the game, then start it again & see what it does. Are the original saves from that .cso or from a UMD. |

I tested other games and the saves are working fine (Worms and FF Tactics),I'm thinking there's something wrong with the Tekken version I've got so I'm getting a different version atm.
As for the MS I've been formatting it using the built-in PSP CFW,and I always get the GAME3.80 instead of GAME3.90,but if it doesn't affect my game playing I don't mind.
also,is it possible to downgrade to a lower CFW to maybe avoid this problem ? maybe until a fix,if this is actually a problem, comes out ?
@rex922 : Dark Alex & Team M-33 are working on a PSP Slim&Lite of the 1.50 Kernel,I saw it hxxp://www.consolespot.net/index.php?network=psp |
