Dilemma I have v1.5 - Do I upgrade or not?

Hello,

I have purchased 4 PSP's from Hong Kong and they were all v1.5 which enabled downloadable games etc.

Problem is these are for my 4 kids and some of the games ie Star Wars Battlefront II and Harry Potter - Goblet of Fire etc require later versions ie 1.52 or 2.0.

Dilemma because they are desperate to play the games they all want v2.0 upgrades instantly. Star Wars Battlefront II comes with the v2 upgrade.. So I knew we could downgrade from v2.0 and to placate them given these are from Santa I pleaded ingnorance and have let them update just one of the PSPs to v2.0 for now so they can at least play the games which needed those..

Note: 4 games from Hong Kong worked fine on the PSPs but another 4 from the US hit firmware problems and needed v1.52 or v2.

My dilemma is what is the best approach .. I paid extra believe it or not for the 1.5's ;-)

Any guidance wuld be much appreciated.

You will run into this more and more with every new game release. You could as you said upgrade them to 2.0 and then downgrade them back. Some of the games can actually be played on the 1.5. Games that require the 1.51 or 1.52 update can be played using an application called "No Updater Launcher" that you can find on www.psp-updates.com . Some 2.0 games can be played this way as well. If you search the site, I believe there is a list of what games can not be played. Star Wars BFII, Soccum,, and GTA are there for sure.

The real problem will be when games, like the upcoming EXIT, require the 2.5 update or later. Then in order to play the game you won't be able to downgrader again.

I would try and stick with 2 at 2.0 and 2 at 1.5. Then you get the best of both worlds and the kids can take turns with each game and system.

Drizzle - I was thinking of going for that option as you say best of both worlds... I will have a go at the "No Update Launcher" first though...

there for your kids and i take it there are yound the both of both world would be the way i go

if you go for the no update some games that are coming out require you to update no matter what (only one right now gta lcs) and both downgrading and upgrading and no update both write in flash a huge amount
and will cause the blue screen of death. ( i don't like the the blue sceen of death it restores my factory defalts)(and not mention you have to press O)

i had the blue screen of death twice on my old psp, so heck, i got another one for free by saying the battery terminals are bent. works like a charm (maybe) if your psp is bricked because they give you an on the spot replacement (only a thought)

ok, Im a noob to psp's, but maybe if you update 2 and leave the other 2 v1.5..........
