Also, can i put on the custom firmware the same way i did on the PHAT?(pandora's battery/jigstick) and can i still play my psx games with popsloader?

I don't think there are many disadvantages anymore - with the use of time machine you can run 1.50 firmware and 3.90 m33 which IMHO are the only two you really need. with those two you can run anything on the slim that can be run on the fat even though it might require the use of some extra applications (such as timemachine) where on the fat you don't need the extra apps.
Lastly, the slim does not have infrared so no infrared keyboard hack or infrared communications of any kind (remote control).
I have both - Get a slim, you can copy your UMD games to memory stick and still play them on your fat. You don't have to install a a lot extra things on your fat if all you want to do is play UMDs and PSX games - you can use your fat for everything else.
