Default Recovery Menu Help

Hello. I have tried to get to the recovery menu on my slim PSP. I've followed the instructions I've found (turn off PSP, turn on while holding R ) but it doesn't work. Could somebody help me?

That didn't help. I've followed the directions for accessing it, but it just won't come up.

I see what to do now. Thank you. By the way, I'm just wondering: What would the battery have to do with the firmware?

OK, I now know what I need to. I saw a few things regarding custom firmware, but I thought you would install some kind of software, not modify the battery.
Well, thanks for the help.
