Wierd problem... need help (Involving CFW installer)
I've been hacking PSPs for a while but just encountered a problem I've never experienced. I have a hacked PSP and so does my friend Gil. My other buddy Jerry wanted his hacked as well. I don't have a Pandora battery anymore, so I used the OS Pandora tool as I usually do (which never results in any problems). But my new GOW PSP doesn't support it, so I used Gil's PSP to hack his battery and the 3.80 unbricker to bring it up to 3.80 CFW. I then told Gil how to change the battery back using the OS tool. But he tells me that when he puts the charger in the PSP without the battery in it, he can't get the XMB, he gets the 3.80 CFW install menu (His PSP is already hacked and perfectly fine, BTW), the one where you install 3.80 or use NAN dump and whatever. I've never encountered this before to my recollection. Does anyone know what I can do to fix his PSP? I would think I could put MY battery in it, then plug in the charger, take out the battery and put his in and use the OS tool. But I won't be able to see him for a while, so is there any way I can instruct him to resolve this? If someone had an answer I'd be very thankful. |

So he still gets the pandora battery screen without the battery in it?
What 'os' tool did you use exactly? The official pandora tool maker, or some 3rd party 'easy' maker?
It cannot go to pandora with an AC adapter, the IPL sequence is untouched, so I'm not sure why it's doing this.
Tell him to take out the battery and try to turn on the psp on a few times with NO ac/battery in it. To get whatever power it has in it out. Then plug the AC in and turn it on. If it keeps doing so, tell him to format the stick or just take it out and try to turn it on.

Yeah it sounds like it's reading the ipl stuff off the stick, so maybe try formatting that. |

It switches your battery to and from normal mode and service mode (Pandora).
Turning on the PSP with no battery or adapter did nothing.
Without the memory stick in, without the battery in and WITH the AC adapter in, it turned on but was blank, didn't even get a pandora menu. This worries me.
He said he selected one of the NANdump options (not the one that says, "Dangerous!") when he saw that the PSP wasn't working. I know nothing about this, and have no idea if this will take a toll on the PSP.
He's going to format his memory stick in a little while when he finds his adapter. If formatting the memory stick doesn't work, I don't know what the hell to do. I'll post back if that's the case. |

I'll post back if that's the case. | What I meant by turning it on without a battery or AC is this. I've turned on my PSP a few times without a battery and got into the pandora menu. What fixed it was draining the PSP of whatever electricity it had left, so it was completely dead, then using the AC adapter.
So turn it on without ANYTHING IN IT or it plugged into the AC adapter, press the up button to turn it on a few times. Then just use the AC adapter, NO battery.
You cannot use the BATTERY while it's pandora-ized, and expect to use it. I'm not sure what you told him, in what order, but tell him to FORGET about the battery at the moment, and just use the AC adapter to turn on the PSP.
Using the battery with the AC still plugged in will still try to boot from the MS in service mode, so that will not work likewise.
Even if he did apply the "Dangerous" one, which is restoring with a complete nand dump, it wouldn't affect him unless that nand dump was not his.
If it's not his, I'm not sure what else you could do.
If turning it on WITH JUST THE AC adapter (no battery in at all), does not work, then he must have either corrupted the flash0, or corrupted the nand completely by restoring a nand dump that was not his.
At this point the last resort would be using a pandora's battery to reinstall firmware, if it still has yet to fix the problem I would have him wait for you to bring a normal battery/mem stick to further seek out the problem.

I'll be sure to try that.
I know that of course. What I instructed him to do was what you normally do to get the battery back into normal mode without the use of another PSP (start the PSP with the adapter plugged in and the battery OUT, then insert the battery after opening the Pandora tool and switching the battery back into normal mode).
Okay.
Hopefully one of these options will help.
What happens with the AC adapter plugged in with the battery OUT is that the light stays on but nothing shows up on the screen. Now, if the flash0 is corrupted, isn't that a brick? And isn't there a way to fix that now?
He said he did reinstall it, and it still shows the pandora menu when he turns it on. As far as the normal battery/mem stick, I'll have to do that if what he's doing doesn't work. Obviously there's not much anyone can say until I know for sure what happened. But now at least I have some ideas of how to fix it. So thanks a lot for your input. |
