Downloading roms.. plz help

i downloaded a regular psp rom. i had the RAR file. i made a folder in games folder called ISO. i put the file in and it says corrupted file. i hav a phat 2.71 psp. do i need custom firmware or did i not do it right? plz help. thanks

I know, I only found out shortly after I posted it that I was in the wrong.
