PSP buying questions - what to get?

I read all the very helpful stickies and I just want someone to confirm before i actualy dish out the cash.

I should be looking for a psp with firmware version 1.0 or 1.5 (can't find any new ones)

Next best thing is getting a 2.0 and downgrading it to 1.5.

Also I see a couple of sites selling Japense versions of psp with 1.5 and 2.0 firmware. Anyone have any experience with these? Will I be able to downgrade them just the same as US ones? Please, do tell

ok, corssing boundries like jap to usa ones means that it will be limited to play only region 2 for jap to usa, if you want to play umd then i strongly suggest against that.

if you look on the box before you buy you can find out what firmware it has if you look at a letter, that may help you find a 1.5, 1.51, 1.52 or 2.0 that you coud downgrade from.

Ya dosent the Reigon code only affect the UMD movies, I thought the games wernt region encoded.

thats rite-only movies or music videos on umds hav the region thing

actually u should be looking for a 1.0 1.5 or 2.0.... 2.0 imo is just as good if not better thn 1.5 now. considering it can run almost all homebrew apps now.

Hm my next question is..will the menu's be in japanese? Is there a way to make them english? Can anyone recomend a good place to buy a psp online?
