The Version.txt Thread

-So it appears that sony has a new method that does not use version.txt, this will work for SOME things, not all I'd be much obliged if those that tested can post what worked and what didn't, I will post in this thread as soon as a patch is released
-The zip will be updated as I can update it, currently it hold the 5.00, 5.03, and 5.50 version.txt
To install the version.txt access the flash0 of your psp, then go into the vsh folder and then the etc folder so it should be like this X(psp drive letter):\vsh\etc\version.txt, now there will be a version.txt in there already copy the one from the download link you wish to use into that folder and rename it version.txt (you can delete the old one if you want), then restart and go to the recovery menu, then under configuration, select use version.txt and make sure it says yes, there now you can bypass any firmware check by sony, this is mainly for use for games downloaded from the sony store

what is the use of bypassing sony's check? if you have CFW why would you be downloading from the psn?

some people download their copy of FF games cause Sony's work 100% whereas homemade are a bitch to get working, also new UMD games will require the firmware check (for the few that do play off UMD)

actually i think they all require firmware checks now, I just tried to play combat ops, no deal.

In order to access the PS Store if you're on M33 right now, you'll need to update to 5.50GEN-a and then downgrade when you're finished.

Whatever check they've implemented... it doesn't care at all what your version.txt says.

Im on 5.03 M33. My version.txt reads 5.51. I can access the store and use Go media perfectly. Go figure.

I didn't use PSAR for 5.51 penguin, had to go to GEN A then take the txt, this will work on all firmwares from 5.00m33 up (that includes GEN A)

Dear Mr Sony,

Having waited eagerly for Gran Turismo on psp to come out i finally bought the game today, happily handing over £29 to which i hope encourages more software development from yourselves. I got home and to my horror it didnt run. After consulting my friends on PSPMOD they informed me that all new games have a c/fw check. This means that i cannot play this amazing game. I took it back to the shop and got a refund, so unfortunatly you wont be getting any of my money. There is good news though, the only way i can play this game now is if i download this game from a warez site, i get it straight away and for free!! No hard feelings then eh? :-)

followed the instructions step by step
i replaced my version.txt with the 5.50 one
tried to sign into psn to buy something
and no go wants me to update my firmware
im guessing cfw cant use the psn store
well fu sony

any help would be good

I'm having the same problem Geek9, and I consider myself an advanced troubleshooter. PSN doesn't care what my version.txt says, I was simply NOT able to get into the store or log into PSN on M33.
