Today I'm looking to by my first PSP used from Gamestop. Is there an easy way to tell before I leave if a PSP2000 is hackable? I have read the post about figuring it out, but the easiest way to tell probably wont work for me. It seems that if the PSP came with 4.01 (or close to that, i cant remember) then its the on mobo that is not hackable, but with buying a used one I wont know if they ever updated it. Is the serial number a good way to tell? Also the unit probably will not come with a box to I cant look on that either. Finally is the unhackable PSP2000 only in one color? If so should I stick to a silver or black?

there are unhackable black 2000s and blue madden 2000s, you might want to take a look at the first link in my sig

Yea thats the post i was talking about, but it talks about looking a box codes and what firmware came on it. I will most likely not get the box, and will not be able to tell what firmware came on it because the previous owner could have updated it.

Are all silver ones hackable? I was looking to get either a silver or black one, but heck i dont even know if they have any in stock...

assuming that they didnt get upgraded to 5.51?

I looked at 2 slims today and one was the Star Wars edition and the other was a black one and had "HU" starting the serial under the battery, would the black one be hackable?

no once its a star wars,god of war or daxter its guaranteed hackable, regardless of firmware
