Old help updating, a little behind on times. 07-18-2009, 04:25 AM   #1 (permalink)

Default help updating, a little behind on times.

So a while back I had a slim I upgraded to 3.71m33-4. Since then I have been completely out of touch with CFW scene and haven't even used my psp at all.

I wanted to update to 5.0 or 5.5, and tried doing some research...but the amount of information I'm behind on is overwhelming.

Was just wondering if someone could walk me through the update process, or show me a good guide. Thanks for your time.

The highest firmware virsion for m33 is curntly 5.00. The easiest way to update it is to use the network update. But if you don't have it connected to the internet, you will need to get 2 things:

5.00 m33-6 update:
File Details-CFW-5.00-M33-6-PSP -

5.00 ofw eboot:
5.00 Official PSP Firmware PSP Downloads

First thing to do is make shure the 5.00 ofw eboot is named 500.pbp, then place it on the root of the memory stick. Put the 5.00m33-6 update (the folder should be named "update") in the game folder. Then run.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I'm downloading the two files and will begin installation shortly.

I'm a little clueless on network update. If you mean the update feature in xmb, would that cause problems with CFW by trying to DL the OFW or something, and causing damage?

I know that probably sounds stupid to you, but I'm a total newb.

Lastly, the reason I want to update is so I can play this FF7 rerease from PSN and I read that it requires 5.50. If this is true, then is there some way I can switch to 5.5?

I am not sure if the psn store works on 5.00 but you can try it. Using the network update in the xmb will not mess up the firmware because it is for cfw.

I'd check in the recovery menu that you have the m33 update enabled though. Otherwise it will download OFW

(Turn off PSP. Hold down right shoulder button whilst turning on PSP)

If you really want to play FF or have access to PS Store, 5.00M33 won't work, Sony blocked all PSPs below 5.50.

I suggest 5.50 MHU, some will say 5.50 GEN is better, but MHU is less buggy.
