DevHook Version 0.42 Tutorial By: Adg12012 and Jrmdb3
Well I've been seeing a lot threads created about DevHook and 2.5 emulation on a version 1.5 PSP. Me and Adg12012 have teamed up to make a clear thorough tutorial. The first DevHook was released on the 6th of June. This was version 0.40. Soon after 0.40 was released, they kept updating it, .41a,.41b,.41c all the way to version 0.42 (Currently the latest version out).
Ok, now on how to use it. ------------------------------- How to emulate V2.5 on your 1.5 PSP and how to play 2.0+ UMD games If you're using this for emulating v2.5 and playing 2.00+ UMD'S then follow these steps: 1. Download DEVHOOK v.42 from: http://dl.qj.net/index.php?pg=12&fid=8608 2. Download the 2.5 update from: http://files.psphacks.net/details.php?file=56 3. Download PBP Unpacker from: http://www.pdc.me.uk/pbpunpacker.php? 4. If any of these files came in zip, rar, or any other compressed file format then extract them....also install PBP Unpacker on your computer. 5. Install DEVHOOK and the devhook firmware installer onto your psp like you would any other homebrew game (drag all 4 folders to the GAME folder of your psp) ----Install DevHook, the two folders (One with the % , and without the %) and then put the Tools folder and the DH folder you found when you downloaded DevHook v.42 into the ROOT of your memory stick. ----------NOTE: In the newest DevHook (v.42) there is a Japanese DevHook, do not install that, unless you know Japanese. Install these and only these folders into your GAME folder: DH_ENG, DH_ENG% (Thats the actualy DevHook) , dh_inst, dh_inst% (Thats the DevHook Firmware Installer). 6. Use PBP Unpacker to extract the DATA.PSAR from the 2.5 update...place the extracted DATA.PSAR file in the root of your memorystick 7. go into the GAME menu of your psp and run the Devhook firmware installer...just say yes to everthing...it will take a few minutes to intall. ---------------------------- CONTINUED ON NEXT POST

How to emulate V2.5 on your 1.5 PSP and playing 2.0+ UMD games CONTINUED ------------------------------------------------ 8. Run DeviceHook sample launcher 9. Use the following settings... UMD SELECT - --UMD Disc -- UMD MOUNT - UMD DISC UMD VERSION - 2.xx -> 2.00 FIRMWARE - 2.50+2.00 CPU CLOCK - 222MHz/111MHz (you can use 333 but i've heard that wifi wont work) BOOT SELECT - reboot XMB 10. Select "START"
------you're psp should restart itself and now be running version 2.5 from the memorystick...you can do all things 2.5 can do including Wifi UMD Games (like socom), Web Browser, Change your Background (and it will remember it next time you load the firmware, play and view 2.00+ file formats (movies, audio, and images), sleep mode, basically everything To get back to v1.5 hold in your power switch for a few seconds until you're psp shuts all the way off....turn it back on and you're back to v1.5 Note: You don't need to do that long firmware installation thing every time (step 7)...once you install it you can just run DeviceHook...You can also delete the "DATA.PSAR" file from you're memory stick. !~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~! There you have it, a complete guide on how to run your 2.0+ game and how to fully emulate V2.5 on your V1.5 using the Newest DevHook V.41d !~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~! The next thing in our tutorial is how to play LEGALLY BACKED UP ISOS of your games. __________________________________________________ NOTE: By doing this we are trusting you that you are using YOUR backed up games in ISO images. PSPMod.com does NOT support piracy at ALL and we do not discuss illegal issues. Me and Adg12012 felt that running ISOs on DevHook was a big then with DevHook and felt that we should talk about it. Once again, you are agreeing that you are using YOUR backed up games. No illegal ISOs. PSPMod.com does not tolerate it whatso ever.
Ok, now that that's over How to play YOUR backed up copies of games in ISO format. 1. I strongly suggest you first do ALL the steps up above that I explained. Please do that if not already. 2. Basically everything is the same, all you need to do is change some settings. 3. Change the settings to: UMD SELECT: Your BACKED UP ISO UMD MOUNT: ISO ANYUMD UMD VERSION: 2.xx -> 2.00 FIRMWARE: 2.50 CPU CLOCK: 222Mhz /111Mhz** BOOT SELECT: REBOOT XMB **= SOME games require you to overclock the PSP to 333mhz to work. 4. Press start and it will reboot your XMB and boot up YOUR backed up ISO autotmatically. The neat thing about DevHook is that during a game, it has sleep mode, meaning you can just turn off your PSP and turn it back on and it will turn on where you left it when you turned it off=].
-------
There you have, the guide on how to play your BACKED UP games 2.0+ using the newest DevHook V.42 on your V1.5 PSP. !~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~! NOTE: To get back to 1.5 you HAVE to reboot your PSP. Hold the power siwtch up for 10 seconds till it shuts off, only then will it go back to 1.5. If you just turn your PSP into sleep mode, it will still be at 2.5 when you turn it on.

Emulating Custom Firmware 1.5 Media Edition Using Devhook
Remember that old custom firmware with all the media capabilities of 2.0 and the homebrew capabilites of 1.5 make by Gameshark.
1. Download the custom firmware here
2. plug in your psp and go to MS0:\dh\150\flash0\kd and copy the files in there to your desktop (this is temporary...we will need to copy these files back later)
3. Now extract the Custom Firmware you just downloaded. There should be two folders: flash0 and flash1.
4. Drag the flash0 and flash1 folders to MS0:\dh\150 (if it asks you to overwrite say yes)
5. Remember those files we copied to the desktop before...well drag them back into MS0:\dh\150\flash0\kd (it should ask you to overwrite...if not, you did something wrong. Say yes to the overwrite)
6. Alright now open DEVHOOK and use these settings:
UMD SELECT - --UMD Disc--
UMD MOUNT - UMD DISC
UMD VERSION - no change
FIRMWARE - 1.50
CPU CLOCK - 222MHz /111MHz
BOOT SELECT - reboot XMB
note: If homebrew will not run, go to Settings/System Settings/Restore Default Settings. After the default settings are restored it will say "Press X to Restart". When you do that your psp will freeze and shut off...thats ok. Turn your psp back on, and run devhook again with the same settings. For me, it took alot longer than normal to start. When it does start, you should be at the screen where you select your language. (It may not freeze and just go straight to the language screen without you having to restart). After you go through the settings, you should be able to run your homebrew.
note: You will notice a big dark thing in the top left corner of the background when you load the firmware. You didnt do anything wrong...the firmware is just like that. If you want to get normal backgrounds then just download the original backgrounds from here and drag them to MS0:\dh\150\flash0\vsh\resource

---big dark thing in the corner Idea: Running 2.6 Games Via Devhook Just an idea I had for running 2.6 games Tell me if it works for you
1. Do everything I just posted above to get 1.5ME up and running.
2. Now download X-Flash from here
3. Install X-Flash like you would any other homebrew.
4. Boot up Devhook and run 1.5ME (use the settings in the post above)
5. Run X-Flash (If X-Flash won't run see note in above post.)
6. Scroll down to #9 where it says "Apply Version 9.99 Spoof" and change that to v2.60 using the L/R triggers/buttons
7. Press X to Save, then press home to go back to the XMB
8. Now simply run your game...hope it works
Theory: The reason I think this will work is the version spoof will allow you to pass the version check and allow the game to actually boot. then the media capabilities of 1.5ME will allow the game to actually run (because 2.00+ games require that 2.0 video file type to run).
Post your results.

Put those in the root of your memory stick. Sorry if it wasn't clear, me and Adg12012 are gonna proof read everything in a little bit to make sure everything is clear. It was just late yesterday night and we left it at that. As you can see, at the bottom of my first post, it says "Still under construction". So if you can just give us a little bit of time today, we can get everything cleared up and maybe even have a FAQ section, but im not sure about taht yet. So please just give us some time and im sorry for the inconveniance. We will have it done by today for sure.

ok thanks man, it will really help. ok i got it to work thought and i know why, i am one of the succesfull 2.6 downgraders but i left the flash files things in the root and that must have been why cause after all the settings where set it just rebooted completely like acutly it shut off, so its not that it wasnt clear soory. But you should at that to your sticky "if you are are a 2.6 downgrader remove the extra files after, then try setting up dev hook" |
