Default Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Game Title : Tekken: Dark Ressurection
Game Description : Tekken: Dark Resurrection is an enhanced version of Tekken 5 that initially debuted on an arcade system. It’s part of the super popular franchise, Tekken. Tekken is a fighting game that usually sports two characters fighting in an arena simultaneously.
Number Of Players : 1-2
Genre : Fighting
Retail Price : $19.99
Graphics : 9.0/10
Sound : 9.0/10
Controls : 9.0/10
Gameplay : 8.5/10
Overall : 8.8/10

Tekken Dark Resurrection’s graphics are beautiful. I mean, they are some of the best most prettiest graphics out there on the PSP market. The fighting effects are gorgeous and the backgrounds are nice to look at. My only complaint here is the some times empty environment, though some would argue that it’s not the graphic’s fault, I still factor it into this area. Though I know you need the arena to fight, I still think it would have been nice to have a little more stuff jutting out from the grounds rather than having so many flat grounds when fighting. Also when a character is beaten to the ground or into the wall chips and rubble go flying but don’t really look like the environment that it got broken from. Those are the things I would like to see improved if another Tekken were to be released on the PSP, but altogether the graphics are just plain beautiful.

The soundtrack is almost perfect in this game. Each and every piece of music fits the area and situation they are in perfectly. Even though the music fits perfectly, it still isn’t anything that makes you want to stop fighting or whatever your doing and just listen to the music, but it’s still really good music. Also, the sound effects are pretty good along with the entertaining voice acting. I can’t complain about the sound effects, though, because they are what they are. They sound right and they are put in the right place. There isn’t much else to say about this category here, but please do take notice in the fact that the game has great sound so there is no need to turn the sound off at any pint while playing the game.

I love the controls in this game. That may be vague, but what else is there to say, really? For a super fast action fighter game, the buttons are responsive as ever. And when you try to pull off the combos there is generally no problem unless you are doing it wrong, obviously. Also, there is no problem with the certain moves that are assigned to whichever buttons because for fighting games it’s pretty standard stuff assigning the buttons to certain moves, and I’d be surprised if they had screwed it up. Like I said, the controls are just plain great and there’s not much else too it.

Don’t let the 8.5 make you think this is the worst part of the game because it is really quite excellent. The fighting system is one of the best (up there with my favourite fighting franchise, soul caliber, but not quite there). The reason I don’t give it higher is because it’s very similar, almost too similar, to the previous installments in the series. I would like to see some really revolutionary stuff in the fighting system when it’s supposed to be a “new” game in the franchise. But it is still a fantastic fighting system nonetheless. If this would be your first Tekken game, then it would be quite amazing if you tried it out, that’s how good it is.

Overall, this is by far the best fighting game on the PSP to date, so it’s a definite must have and as I just mentioned in the gameplay section, if it would be your first Tekken game then I would say you have to pick it up. The fighting system holds up well to this date. It can also last you a long time if you have a friend with a PSP as it requires only one UMD to play multiplayer and if you don’t have a friend with a PSP you can still download characters to fight from over the internet. Tons of fun. Highly recommended.
