Ok. well let me start off by saying im in between being a fan of the series.
I have seen the movie, i have played a little bit of the first game but i own it. i have beaten Silent Hill 2 for PC. which i think is better then the ps2 version. so I decided to try out this game for psp. and this is my review.

"Presentation" - wow. this opening has to be one of the best openings i have seen in gaming. this is original and is coincedentally and traditionally the way how all silent hill games start out or most of em. ill explain it.
the graphics are amazing for this title. your character (Travis) starts out driving his pick up truck on the road that is surrounded by a forest, its night and raining, and Travis is talking to his friend saying he is on his way to Brahms but he is gonna take a short cut through silent hill. "getting off topic, OMG dousnt anyone know anything about this place? or has everyone lost there common sence". ok anyway. some maniac runs in the middle of the road and collapses giving Travis a shock. he parks the truck and gets out to see nowone was there. on top of that he can see in his rear view mirror that there is a little girl right behind him but no matter how many times he looks behind he dousnt see anyone except a fog coming up. Travis then turns and sees a little girl(Obviously Alessa) and she starts running away down the road. totally forgetting about his truck Travis starts running after. this is where the player kicks in. this is how the opening rocks. you are controlling travis, runnin after her, as you are runnin through the forest road the camera angle's switch off between overhead vie, side angle, side scrolling, and rear view and front view, and while these angles are going on while you move. the opening credits also take place. Man this is like a movie and the good graphics back it up. and what way to finish off this running and credits sequence to still be running down the road and come up on the sign that says "Welcome to Silent Hill" i give the presentation a ( 9 of 10 )

Gameplay - the gameplay is your traditional type of silent hill play except a little step up. now you have control of a character that KNOWS how to fight back and to defend himself. now you can give the bad guys a taste of your fists. yeah punch em!!! show em your a man!!! Punch there lights out!!! not only can you use your fists to fight but u can also use random things such as toasters,TV's,wooden planks,meat hooks. etc.and you can charge your attack to give an eaven more powerful devestating blow to your enemy. there are some minor complaints i have about this fighting ability. with your fists, you arent very accuarate. unless your up in the enemies face or close enough, u will miss ur throw punch giving your enemies an easy counter on you BUT for once in my time of playing Silent Hill, im finally happy im no longer some fool who cant fight back without some weapon, i give the gameplay a ( 7 of 10 )

control set-up - the control is your same type of silent hill, but now do to lack of L2 and R2 buttons they had to some configuring, your R button triggers your attack mode where you raise your hands for combat. your D-pad is what toggles between your weapons, your analog is your movement which works out well, the movement speed is efficient. your running button is still the square button as usual but its a little off. when u press and hold square, it approximitly takes exactly one second for your character to start running. a little annoying but easily overlooked. your L button triggers your camera, and as for the rest, they are standard. if you are new to silent hill these controls may take 30 to 40 mins to get used to, if you are and intermediate or expert player of the silent hill series then you will grasp the control layout in a snap. i give the controll set-up an ( 8 of 10 )

Story - the story is great and really easy to follow and understand, as for this game is really the first of the series because at the start. Silent Hill hasnt become a tainted town yet until you had to be a hero( if you play the game, you will know what i mean but i already spoiled the opening for you so i wont do any else) i give the story a 9 of 10

Realism and common since - this game does get as real as a real life situation can get....in some ways or areas this game is complete crap. i mean if you pick up a meat hook and wack an enemy with it, how is it gonna snap and break. GET REAL Not even a rusted meat hook would break like this, my best weapon snapped on me. your enemies in this game of coarse are still.....them but now they are smarter, more deadly and more flexable. your enemies now can grab you leaving you at there mercy unless you can fight them off by pressing the coresponding button the screen pops up for you, this happens often if their givin the chance. dont give them that chance. you are much easier to kill now unlike the other games. you are really human, if you are stabbed, you are either going down or you are gonna be badly hurt, at best you can only spare 1 to 2 hits before you are in the danger zone. items arent easy to come by, you will find yourself using health drinks often. on the other hand, the enemies look real enough to pull off these techniques. i give this a ( 7 of 10 )

i wasnt real hard on this game though i could have been harsh and put on major details but still that wouldnt make this a bad game. im not one to approve the use of alchemy and withcraft and all that satism crap garbage. i dont like those parts of silent hill games or in any other but i just work my way around em, that isnt a clean game. i strongly recommend and encourage the ESRB rating for this game because this does have disturbing images as the game states before you start it.

the lasting appeal for this game is a good one. likers of silent hill would like to play through this a second time because of the specials you get for beating it the 1st time. and not just because you are congratulated for winning. this is worth a 2nd play through for fans who will go far enough...

overall this game deserves a 9 of 10

Agreed, very nice review. I was waiting to get this game, and now I need to get it... Still working on MHF2 and Manhunt2, but will make room for this one as well. LOL

yeah, normally im always frightened to play silent hill, i literally could not play Silent Hill 2 alone, even though i started the game with the chainsaw. i needed my freind to be here while i play it. im sorry lol.
but im actually playing this one alone because im no a punk anymore, i can actualy punch and have some combat. it just sucks when u miss your throw

Im A HUGE FAN FAN OF Silent Hill.. I beat SH 1, 2 and 3, and will buy 4 soon. and TRUST ME!! I was sscareedd of 2 as well :P Silent Hill 2 is by far the best in my opinion.. The most shocking parts were when Piramid Head was following you.. Thta was sick...

Right now im playing this one and so far is amazing!! I just started playing it yesterday so, im in the hospital.

Im disappointed about ONE thing.. I got this hammer... and if I use it a LOT it will vanish.. HOW gay is that?? It is a HAMMER made out of METAL! how on earth will that get broken or unusable ?? its ok if it is a wooden stick or something that breaks, its benadable etc etc.. BUT A METAL HAMMER.

Played this game myself completed it twice now it has some good extras after each completion gonna go again and see what else i can get. I do recomend this game. nice review morris1113

dude, i totaly hated that, all my weapons broke, katana's everything, its fu***** bull, how the hell does a katana break? anyway, its a nice touch to be able to punch, now im not as afriad as i was, atleast now i can show these fools how i deal with punks, i would feel more better if i was running around as Dante lol. yeah silent hill 2 was freaky when pyramid head came around the corner following me and maria i was like " OH SH**!!! YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING* I RAN LIKE CRAZY, to bad for maria lol. i own silent hill 1 but i havent got far, i did beat silent hill 2, and i just got the pc version of silent hill 3 yesterday and i like the sailor moon touch, now i am fighting as a sailor scout, oh yeah and i have a lightsaber, its on now, i havent got silent hill 4 but dude plz be sure to tell me if its worth getting cuz i hear its not even in silent hill

Haha OH YEAH! Poor Maria got owned.. I was like O_O WTF!!! shes DEAD !! O_O i like how after beating the game you can play as her.. *I never played that part though* its a good add-on.

But yeah the weapon thing is a little bit stupid.. I cant believe that. Silent Hill 1 is crazy ! I enjoyed it a lot! its easy as well, The only one of the puzzles that really GOT me thinking more than enough was that damn piano at the School.


But yeah :P Silent Hill 3.. was fun too, the graphics are A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT!! if you compared them both to SH2. You will enjoy it, it is hard but is not to the point of "HOW ANNOYING" and is not that long either.. You'll beat it in around 7 hours. SH2 took me twice the time but probably because I left the game on or something and left.. and got back on .. And I will let you know how SH4 is I heard they over used BLOOD!! which seems FUN!


One question : Whats up with SLEEP MODE ?? Everytime I get on Sleep Mode while Playing Silent Hill I cant get back on the game.. It says "LOADING" and it'll stay there FOREVER......

Any ideas?

I too, am still wandering the hospital hallways... I've killed a couple of nurses, and seen the girl in the mirror, but I seem to be stuck. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go, and the elevator only goes to 1 or 2...

Anyways, FWIW, I've found that playing this game, with headphones of course, with a small light on behind you, and no other lights, this game freakin rocks! I know, sounds childish... Try it. The soundtrack, and the aforementioned lighting, just make this the best PSP game, in my book.

you walk up to the mirror that you saw the girl in and hit your button and presto , you in the rusted and bloddy side of silent hill .all the mirrors work like that ...hope that helps barry
