You'll love Patapon if you:

• like fighting the same bosses who get more and more difficult (up to level 99, I believe), in order to strengthen your army
• like rhythm-based games with insane (in a good way) music
• have a younger sibling/girlfriend who likes cute little eyeballs of doom
• like crazy Japanese video games in general!

I got a little less than 20hours of gameplay going through the story this the first time, but I didn't do too much grinding for items and the like.
I'll definitely replay this as soon as I get through the other things in my collection.

My only criticisms for the game are

• the lack of a pause function
• no multiplayer (it would have been great to fight someone else's actual army)

At $20, you can't go wrong.

this game super fun and is addicting. wierd story but you will understand it as u go on. BUY IT. its worth the $$$$

Not having a pause feature is a pain but can handle it.

Best guide: GameFAQs: Patapon (PSP) Walkthrough by velcry Read it before you play the game, you will then know how to set up your army and play for items.

This game is hard... I couldn't kill that giant crab thing so I exchanged it for Ace bomat X

I like it, and am waiting for a sequel.

Hopefully it will include more completion bonuses and complexity.

As it is, you can finish the game with the odds and ends you pick up from level to level, without really seeking things out.

The only slightly obscure bit of knowledge that you might need is with combining materials to make new units, where combining a level 3 material with a level 4 one creates something that provides a large attack boost, with slight slowdown, which is good for ranged units. The 4-4 unit is supposedly faster and more resistant, but not as strong attack-wise, which might have some other benefits for a person grinding the bosses; but for someone who just wants to beat the game, 3-4 combinations are not hard to come by. Just don't waste them on melee units.
