Default RPGs

Final Fantasy Tactics with the latest collaborative patch at http://ffhacktics.com/1.3/ is very rewarding and challenging, since you can't just level grind and crush everyone because all (or most?) of the encountered enemies level up similarly (bosses and unique generics have higher levels), so you have to rely much more on strategy to win, instead of mindless swarming like what would have worked for the original.

The patch involves much more than level-scaling the encounters, though.

The game mechanics have been completely reworked by total addicts who have invested countless hours into the game, removing some of the more exploitable and unbalanced aspects, and raising the importance of less-used skills, to balance the skillset out more and encourage (or coerce) the player to be more inventive with their strategy, since you won't have a single party/skillset that will work for every fight.

Also, the random encounters have been reworked too, where there are pre-made enemy parties for each of them, with various themes.

This is only for seasoned RPG players that can take the time to know game mechanics inside and out, but it's a blast, especially on the PSP where you aren't anchored to a TV and console.

I'm a huge monster hunter 1 and 2 fan. But i believe the Final Fantasy Crisis Core is the best psp rpg out there right now. As others stated, it is not a "traditional" rpg. it is an "action" rpg. nevertheless, it still is an RPG

Definitely not the "best" rpg by any standard. And if we are going to compare action rpgs then MHP2G takes the cake.

FFVII:Crisis Core has almost no replay value while MHPG2 is nearly limitless.

What better role then an endless one?

I've beaten Crisis Core four times so far. The story has limitless value. But I do agree about MHP2G, except if you transferred over your old save and have almost all of the good weapons already.

Crisis Core is decent, although it will run slowly from a lot of memory sticks. Dungeon Siege is a pretty good game although it does glitch fairly often so keep a lot of saves. FF1 and FF2 are good if you like older games (very well done, both of them). Right now I'm playing Wild ARMs XF and am really enjoying it.

I tried to play FFT:WotL but gave up about 10 minutes in. The ability to skip long cutscenes is a must for me and EVERY cutscene in that game is long.

i gotta say, i hate games where the opponents level up to a similar level to you (making grinding impossible/pointless) it totally defeats the point of leveling up a character, i do think that FF games are great but there is still something apealing about the pure simplicity of games like pokemon, my personal preferance is more for games like MH though
