Well two days ago, almost ever football fan who owned a console, rushed to GameStop to grab a copy of the infamous EA Sports' title, Madden NFL 09. I mean it had a midnight release, for Christ sake. Well, I grab it a day later, Who cares, let's jump into this review.
Game Title : Madden NFL 09

This year's PSP edition features new Player Indicators to help you recognize your routes better as well as improved play calling and a special Rookie Mode with simple controls and easy play-calling.

Graphics 7 out of 10 : Any port, the PSP isn't going to be great. I mean the system does has it's limitation, but we are talking about EA Sports. Madden has been a PSP game since 06, and the graphics are pretty much the same. Maybe, they will learn to take full control of the PSP. Who Knows?
Sound 7 out of 10 : Ugh. I hate EA Trax. Only a selection of good songs, then again, I don't like Sam Spence's music. But it isn't all about the music. It's about the whole game. The commentary is on point. I had the Jets, playing against the Dolphins, and there was talk about rival teams. And maybe the roster update did this, but Madden said "And the addition to Brett Farve to the Jets will be interesting." Maybe I was hearing things.
Controls out 8 of 10 : Now I am so used to playing madden on the Playstation, console that is. I need those back trigger buttons. We don't have them here. EA has done a good job with combining buttons. It may not be confrontable at first, but you will get used to it. For instance, you can't juke left or right. Just the way the AI thinks it's best for you. On a console, to truck a player, you would press triangle, but that is for juking. Instead, you use L trigger and triangle to truck. In time, gaining these skills, will earn you great Madden play.
Gameplay 9 out of 10 : Well this isn't the PS3 or 360, so not much to expect here. It is just basic playing modes: Franchise, Rosters, Play Now, Mini-Camp, and Practice. I will say the Franchise mode has been revamped. there is actually a coaching feeling. There is no Superstar, Create-A-Team/Player, or anything like that. There is a Superstar Challenge. This let's you relive famous NFL situations. I haven't played them all, but it sounds like something that NFL 2k5 had.
Overall out 8.3 of 10 : This is what I get on the PSP. A disc that was slapped a few features on. I put that into the PSP, and was amazed how EA cared about it's "on-the-go" people. I loved Madden ever since 98 on my Genisis, even if it did repeat a few years. Madden has something to offer now. I am not saying this is a must-have game, but you have to admit, that EA stepped it up. I mean it also came in a exclusive bundle. No arguing about that. Good game for a fair system.
