This is my review of the leaked release of Loco Roco 2 beta EUR.
Now, I found this file floating around, and said, hey, if they don't sell it in stores, I'm not pirating! I think!
So, here is my review.
Loco Roco 2 is Loco Roco with a few gimmicks. This time around, you are still fighting the moja Corps, which makes the storyline around the same (Did I mention all the Mario and Zelda games?) as Loco Roco 1.
You have your basic assortment of stuff found in Loco Roco 1, as well as a "Muimui House" instead of a "LocoRoco house" (In my opinion, a bad decision because LocoRoco are generally cuter), with a plethora of things to build, from sofas to whole rooms. Also, it has a few more minigames.
The gameplay isn't changed much except for a little thing you have to gather - music notes. The loco roco singing in front of something to trigger special events has changed with a mild rhythm game where you press X to gain "music notes", kind of like the rain minigame in Patapon. Bewarned you have no penalty for epicly failing on this minigame, however you have to be fairly accurate to get the notes (Or fairly musical). Controls remain the same.
The world map retains the same kind of stages that were in LocoRoco 1. So, nothing too new, except a couple of stages. However the world map menu has been revamped as to simulate a planet. But, now, every map has its own theme, and the story is more pronounced (Things attack what, etc). You have your basic assortment of stages that look like they're from LocoRoco 1, then there are the stages that are brand new, such as a Totem pole level. Did I mention there are vehicles? Loco Roco can fit in special rolling rocks and crush enemies/spikies/whatnot, and it's awefully handy in advancing the level.
The distinctive LocoRoco singing has returned with some remixes of the original songs. What used to be Loco Rocos singing along to a single voice now has a lot of accompanying instruments to it - a thing not noticed if you're just rushing through the game. As with Loco Roco 1, the individual Loco Rocos sing along, if you haven't noticed, too (2 loco rocos account to 2 voices, 20 account for a few singing one part, a few singing another, and a few singing bass, and a few singing soprano). However there is one more character added, a purple one, and it seems that all the characters have completely different singing styles now. It's fun - try it.
