If one user goes down a week the rest would sit quiet after the incident. And that does not mean banning and being a ass-mod. Its having some attitude to keep things 'down' and under control. Which the mods back then lacked. | So, we should ban thirty percent of the populace based on a moderator election where cheating had occured? Nay, I say, Nay! We ought not to ban simply for minuscule matters...
Polling will only incite more of what's happened in the past....so, I say Nay! Nay to the flaming! Besides, we are determining pros and cons of candidates as I speak!
I like saying "nay"! (I just read Hamlet, if you were wondering why the weird speech )

Who said we should ban 30 people at once just to "keep things under control" ?
And if one of you which are member of the "Authority" says "NO MORE flaming" in a nice way and giving a warning. I think things would go a lot better. And if one crosses the line after the words "his own fault"
Your completely limiting the mod's power and skills from keeping things under control. *And not only you the whole crew* By the way your saying it sounds like 'hopeless' for you guys to even hold a poll ever again free of flaming. Thats sad coming from a mod/mods. Is that how good you guys perform?
And the "nay" i'm ok with it, No worries.

And the "nay" i'm ok with it, No worries. | I'm merely trying to impress the point that banning people (or the threat of banning) based on flaming within a poll that actually isn't needed is, in its contradictory way, going against the aim of the site.
...I'm not sure if I quite got that one.....
So, Nay! hahahaha
What I am to say is that I don't want to ban anyone if it isn't necessary; and, by enacting a poll that would eventually lead to banning (because of flaming) would go against the goals of the forums. Great members haven't followed the rules of poles in the past, so to incite and encourage flaming and cheating (although unintentionally) wouldn't be prudent. We are weary of our mistakes in the past, thus we are going to decide the next two moderators in a close-knit group, and not leave humans to their inevitability of pointless argument with disregard for respect...
Maybe that will flesh out my thoughts. If not, I'm not really going to converse much more on the subject, because we are already set in our decision (of how we are deciding...haha... ), so it would be pointless to continue much further
Besides, with pointless argument comes accidental disrespect, and then a return volley, then a shield and volley, then Mephistopheles wins once again!

Banning and Warning its in fact "needed" when things get out of control.
Its like a cop saying... We wont elect a PRESIDENT by votes because theres going to be RIOTS which will lead to "Citizens being arrested". Just because as you said " Its going against the aim of the site / against the goals of the forums.." ??
Your guys are going tooo weeek and thats why you get flaming. In short words the whole thing makes no sense, Theres ways to make a POLL work but if the COPS which are the MODS dont do something about it.. Of course the'll be chaos; Poor moderated.
But I guess thats decided already to not have one so lets keep it as is.

here's an idea...make the poll thread but delete every comment, and make a point to say "don't bother commenting because it will just be deleted"... |

it's good to see that this forum is getting some new members
all i hope is that the members chosen are active as much as possible.
and that they don't get carried away with the modding rights.
and forget the idea of a poll, it not worth the trouble.
Admin will probably choose with the current mods and they will make the right choose.

He's not saying that ALL polls are gonna be like that specific one, just the ones were there is competetion from members of the site. Anytime you have something like that people get PERSONAL, which is why I keep saying, stick to the psp topics, don't flame people or be rude, and you won't have anything to worry about. 1 mod who checks the site everyday can delete a message if it goes against the rules of the site. If someone new is here its cause they are looking for help so I don't see a new person insulting other members when he's trying to get help, Im sure there are some that will, but its not that hard to deal with, just block and ignore until the mod gets it taken care of
What would be nice, is if there is a post that is offensive or inappropriate, the best thing would to add a button on the site for each post that once clicked with flag it for a mods attention, I know there is the report post button, but its kinda small and new people will miss it

On my site we have an "infraction mod"
You have 0/6 points. 2 for spamming, etc (we are on a warez forum so we have some other rules), but once you get to 6, you get a 2 week ban. This way it's automatic, and members know.

the reason we arnt doing a poll this time is because it turns into a popularity contest and people will vote for their friends... regardless of if theyre capable of doing the job or not. this time the staff is picking the new mods based on how they handle themselves and if we feel they will make a good mod. unfortunately, thats the way it has to be. youll all know who we chose in a few days. |

Finally someone that comes up with some smart comment on "WHY" the staff is picking the MOD themselves.
I understand now.
Best of luck to whoever gets chosen.

Not to mention how a poll will set up a popularity contest. Whereas this, the mods, and admin, are actually discussing who will make a better mod, based on qualifications that a good mod should have. They're determining who would make the best mod, rather than "who is the coolest."
And, at the very end of it, this site is owned by the admin, and he's the one who is in charge of all his staff. He must have seen that the election didn't go as well as it should have, and rather than take that same gamble again, he'd make sure that he gets it right this time. |
