Itunes 9 (F*** YOU APPLE)
I come to you as a modest person, I use my ipod quite a bit and indeed love the easy to use interface of itunes, and for the past 1/2 year I've avoided upgrading due to the fucking ridiculous size download it needs every time, but once the store stopped working I had to upgrade. Now just a little background: I've been using itunes for quite awhile and I've always found the interface nice to use, and good enough looking, well I'm throwing that all out with itunes 9. It seems that apple decided to be smartasses and now one of my most important ipod programs I use (sharepod) has stop working. Now for those of you who don't know, sharepod is a free program that backups your ipod, it has a nice easy interface, and unlike itunes doesn't rape your resources, I love it and use it quite a bit, but since using itunes 9 I've found that it stopped working with my ipod (no surprise), well for those of you wondering why this is a big deal it goes like this, I have 2 computers one with a hardline connection and one on wifi, the other day itunes offered the amazing deal of .99 per Dexter episode and I immediately purchased 2 seasons, but I did it on my hardline, so I was planning on transferring it, not so much. From the moment my ipod touched itunes 9 it fucked with it. It told me that it had to remove some purchases from my ipod (legit ones none the less) but I said fuck it, I'll just put it on later, so after all that I've found that sharepod no longer works, so I'm in a dilemma, I want Dexter on my laptop, but it looks like I'ma have to use a HDD to transfer it, (that in itself isn't so bad, but I shouldn't have to its bullshit). But wait my complaints don't stop there, awhile ago also I found out that apple was requiring everyone have an apple id, well I had an aol one (made the account ages ago), so I tried the upgrade process, but surprise, surprise, apple tried to force me to register a credit card on the account, I HAD TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND HAVE THEM UPGRADE IT FOR ME! Just because they decided to try and force me. All I have to say is this, apple congratulations your backhanded tactics, stupid ass add ons that are required for itunes (not even gonna get started on that) your ridiculous DRM, and fucking outrageous upgrades have convinced me to forsake you, first chance I get I'm ditching your store, and on top of that I will probably be pirating all my stuff now. So I hope your proud of the absolute shit you push out |

iTunes 9 itself is better than the previous versions, not just aesthetically, but also performance-wise. I hate the new iTunes Store's look, as they just seem to be battling the Zune store. iTunes in general though is too bulky and, I do believe you when you say that it fucked with competing/replacement programs. MediaMonkey, Winamp, and WMP won't work anymore. They either don't start or crash after 10 seconds. Coincidence? Apple has always been a bitch with their policies and with wiping out competition. I want to call them a monopoly, although technically they're not since it's the consumer that makes the choice to go through them instead of other companies. Sure Apple innovates, but I think we've gotten to a point where their tactics and image are getting kind of old. They admitted that the Nano will survive maybe one or two generations more and that the video camera was a gimmicky feature. The Touch will be the new breadwinner.
Also, I would like to say that Apple has made a serious mistake by signing an exclusive contract with AT&T. As an AT&T user, I have to say their policies are really gay. As of 9/5/09, any user using a Blackberry, iPhone, or Smartphone without a data plan will have one automatically added to their account. The way they tell what phone you're using is through its IMEI number. If you bought the phone from AT&T or if it's an iPhone, you're pretty much screwed if you don't want a data plan. I bought an iPhone 2G from a friend for $60. I went to activate it through iTunes, only to see that I was required to buy a data plan, and that if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to activate my iPhone. No problem, I thought. So I jailbroke, unlocked, and activated it with Redsn0w. Now, after reading this new policy on my bill, I went to the AT&T website and saw that they knew I was using an iPhone. I had to hack into the iPhone to change the IMEI to a random number so that they don't know what phone I'm using. #1) This is illegal in most countries since it's used to identify, track, or blacklist a phone. And #2) It's downright STUPID that I had to do this. I had to go through so many steps just so that I would be able to use Wifi without a data plan. Apple, if you're reading this, offer the iPhone to other networks as well. I'm no Verizon fan, but Verizon was stupid to reject the iPhone for being "too complicated".

Apple is useless. I sent my broken 80gb video ipod in to be fixed. They sent it back, still not working. Itunes itself and the zune store are fucking gay. Fucking DRM, Encrypted files, and useless software.
Dexter + WinAmp ftw. |

Seriously, now I've heard of this new method they're implementing where purchases have a "key" that comes with the file (it's a separate file). You're free to move the song/video over to a friend (with the key) but only the one with the "key" can access it. They claim it's not another form of DRM, but clearly it is.
@Mito: After dropping my Zune 30 1 foot off the ground and having its hard drive barely functioning, I don't trust non-flash mp3 players anymore.
