New here. Re: MEMORY CARDS
Hi i've just read about "Fake memory cards" on ebay. I ordered one before reading this. I'm not sure if it is fake or not. But here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...6379&rd=1&rd=1
If it is fake, what is the bad thing about that?
Also just ordered a PSP. Its V1.5. What do I need to do after i've got it in order to play downloaded games?
Hello to all, and thanks for any help given in advance.
Adam. |

Well from what I heard some fake ones have trouble with custom firmwares...
All kinds of weird errors with 3.03 oe* firmwares and such...
Reason being is that the firmware was developed and tested on MagicGate Supported Mem Sticks...
This is only true in some cases... There are fake Mem Sticks that have no problems at all. Some do though.... Good Luck....

Is there anyway to identify real from fakes? Thanks for the replies guys.
I think ill cancel the memory card off ebay. Does the memory card HAVE to be Sony, or can it be SandisK? first warning. dont double post. 3 times and youll be banished from this website for a week |

the easiest way to tell if the mem card is real or fake is real mem cards will have "magicgate" marked on the cars somewhere as fake cards will not,
so.... if you see magicgate printed on your card you got yourself a real one |

Sandisk memory cards are compatible.
There are websites that have been made (not sure if they are trustworthy) that points out the inferiority of counterfeit cards. I wouldnt rely much on these cards, Ive had 2 in my lifetime and they both died around the 4 mth mark. Interestingly enough they both died when i tried to copy a load of small sized files.
Heres a link that may help http://search.reviews.ebay.com.au/me...eram_W0QQuqtZg |

makl that is bullshit as my fake one has magicgate on it. 1 way to tell is to put it in the psp, then selecting the memorystick, pressing triangle, and information. if it is fake it will appear as magicgate:unknown. a real one will say either supported or unsupported

Its pretty accurate the triangle/info thing, sony, surprise surprise, charge for the magicgate support thats pretty much why you only really see both sony brand and sandisk pro duo's. In my experience, 2gb and lower fakes tend to be ok, just watch out for the 4gb, generally worth shit! |

I've brought 2 fakes off ebay ... knew they probably would be becuase they were reeaaalllyyy cheap, one worked (the 4gb one) and the other (2 gb) did but only for about 1 min ... so really worth it there :s
its a gamble, ok you can save a lot but its fustrating.
I would just say thought that if it is a fake get some screen shots etc to prove it (i.e. magic gate unsupported) as its against ebay policies to sell fakes so if you challenge it even if the seller is being a c**K you can still get your money back through paypal and hopefully get the seller's account f in the a. | But you generally speaking cant tell from looking at the card ... and if your buying off the net you can almost gurantee that the pic is of a legit card and the one you get is a fake |

if u buy off ebay, youll proly get a fake card, but buying from actual retailers will always yield a real card
