Maybe hes too afraid to downgrade or something or he has no idea what a downgrader is lol. And the ebay thing is just repair parts seeing by the title (the page wont actaully load for me) so if you can't downgrade in the first place I really wouldn't attempt to open up your PSP and replace the mobo. Big no-no there

a downgrader is way safer then gutting the system to do major surgury like installing a new mobo

Hey, it's not really that bad at all. I mean just don't drag your feet in socks on a carpeted floor and then touch wet fingers to your mobo and parts, and you'll be fine. The inside of a PSP is very simple too. The hardest part is carefully disconnecting the ribbons, and remembering which screw goes where lol. If you're curious at what this surgery looks like, I have some pics of my little half assed myspace. http://www.myspace.com/orion_regardless
There are not many parts inside, and so long as you have a large flat table to seperate the different layers on then you'll be fine.
If the mobo's where'nt $90 i'd buy em just in case of bricking. If you have lot's of money, and a set of really small screw drivers, then go for it

Thank you for your replies. First off I repair laptops for a living so getting dirty in small spaces is not a big deal. My problem is that it is true I dont like monkeying with software and making my PSP a brick. Unless someone wants to ship me a copy of GTA which I will gladly return after finishing up, (All expenses to me of course). I am a little leary about going down the hacking route.
I am open to offers to do this job as I am not going to sit here and not be able to play homebrew games, that would be just plain wrong. Its a PSP1001, non weird Mobo, pretty straight forward for you experts out there. Help a brother out would ya?

Two options. First... Grab you're PSP and start hitting game stores. Ask for used copies of GTA:LCS (not the greatest hits version), and ask to try them out on your psp to see if it "works the way you want it to...", if they get theirs sheets in a twist and say you can't, hand them your psp and let them check it... if all else fails, ask about their return policy. (this worked for me i just found another unpatched 2 days ago... these games are out there, and they have no idea what they have. $17.50 for these beauties... SECOND-go to blockbuster, etc. rent all their GTA LCS they have there. Forget all that replace them with a new one thing. Blockbuster has their whole no more late fees, so if you don't turn it in in 2 weeks they charge you for it. So, you bought it either way. The first way is cheaper obviously, but when you want some Brew (homebrew that is) you do what it takes. Good luck... You could always try ebay, i've seen then go from $50 to $400... again good luck.
And if you repair laptops, then throwing a new motherboard into one of these is a cake walk trust me. no soldering, no glue, no breaking anything. Just get some small screwdrivers... Philips for the screws, and flathead for easing the ribbon clamps up (and out on one of the ribbons... one has a weird clamp, you have to pull both sides out, not up), and for prying the screen out of the little encasement thingy. If the $90's is worth playing homebrew now, rather than waiting to find GTA, then do it.

yes... 1 make sure it's 2.00, and not 2.60... and make sure you read every direction word for word like 3 times over. then as you are doing it, have the readme open, and read it step by step. dont freak out, dont turn off or restart your psp unless you are prompted to. trust me, when you get to the part where you make your DXAR file, youll think it might have frozen, just have patience... good luck! see you at OE!
