Exclamation Post-Mod Problems

Hello, i'm Martin

recently i bought a clear face and backplate set, and have put them on my psp. here is where the troubles begin, i can turn the psp on and the power indicator light will come on and memory stick light will flash but i get no video and no sound, i have checked the connections and see no problems.

i was hoping someone may be able to help, or if anyone has any ideas, anything, be it suggestions, links, etc... i woudl be very grateful.

thanks

Im not a hardware master, but I would suggest you to try taking everything apart again, and redo it , you never know maybe something got messed up.

Good luck!!

1.) Hit the brightness button a couple of times. OE firmware can get squirrely like that.
2.) Does the power light stay on or does it go off in 20 -30 seconds?

Having no video and no sound - two seperate components but they connect to the same thing - a system board. If your speakers weren't plugged in you'd still get video right?. If you didn't have the LCD plugged in you'd still get sound right? I would really have to guess your m-board is hosed. "I hope I'm wrong"

try taking out the lcd and makin sure the smaller connection is as far in as possible and maybe u dont hear sound cause u turned the vol off the last tim u used or jus to make sure check the connections on the speakers there a lil tough to push in. the wires on them snap easy so check if they are still good

@ mime... thanks for the advice, took the entire thing apart, checked each connection, all look fine, but still no video/sound

@pickafingname.... tried the brightness nothing, the power light stays on. i hope i've missed something cause i dont wanna replace a motherboard.

@dylan6879.... checked all connections all are in as far as they go, still no luck

Thanks for your suggestions guys, going to get my older brother to have a look at it seeing as he's got a lot more tools than me and an electronics degree (you never know, may come in handy)

if he cant fix it it might be off to the repairers.

Thanks...

As a last resort disconnect EVERYTHING but the power board from the system. If it still doesn't come up then there's nothing else left. Keep it simple. If you have no sound and/or no video and all connections are made it's your board. There's nothing else. Sucks - heck of a price to pay for a mod.

If you've never had one apart then it's not for you. He has already had everything disconnected. He obviously knows how and where things plug in. He replaced the entire shell for Pete sakes. A PSP is NO different than a PC. You can have a bad peripheral that cause the unit not to turn on. It's currently an over sized paper weight as is. Besides if memory serves me correctly almost if not all cables are top side anyway.

There's a possibility that the motherboard was fried from static electricity. I learned in electronics class(many moons ago) that any time you mess with a motherboard, whether from a comp. or the PSP, you should be properly grounded. The teacher also showed us pictures(done under microscope) of the damage caused by static electricity. It was pretty substantial. I use a grounding strap at work and whenever I mess with my comp. at home. These can be bought at Radio Shack.

thanks for all the advice and i'll just wanna confirm suspisions peeps have "sorta" commented on

I do know basically what i am doing (i aint working for sony anyway)
I did resort to unplugging everything
I was grounded - i knew that was first thing to do before anything

and finally IT ISNT BRICKED, i put all of it back together pushed the sides of the face plate down and i noticed a slight blue haze, angled it in the light and i can conclude the backlights gone, had it out tested it and yep, its gone so now i've gone from spending £70 on it to buying a backlight, (thank my lazy attitude for not sending it away and wasting £70ish) , technically speaking at the moment its a paper weight but soon enough it'll be a working PSP completly with 2 new 4gig memory sticks, clear face/back plate and in the works are plans to hook two little leds in each of the shoulder buttons to the memory stick indicator light,

as soon as its all fixed i'll post some pics cause everyones beens so helpful. (but i am lazy so dont hold your breath)

flashing reading lights
