Memory Stick Erased!
i was transfering some music to my psp and by accident i droped my psp on the floor. when i went to check what was on the psp's memory it was all erased. it's now asking me to reformat. do i actually have to reformat or can get what was on it back?? why did this happen??? thanks
UPDATE: i tired reformating my m/s two ways. 1) windows through usb - it said windows was unable to format my m/s. 2) psp/settings/format m/s - it said that there is no m/s found --->re:update- it now says format failed (80220087)
MEMORY INFO: recently upgraded to 4 gig pro duo, bought it from ebay. everything looks original plastic cover, adpter and m/s.
PSP: f/w 3.03 oe-c |

Most likely though it is corrupt. What happened was when you were writing to the card and dropped it the card either came loose or the PSP just buggered up the data xfer and in turn corrupted the entire card. It's like when burning a CD, if you open the CDr drive while it's writing the disk the entire disk goes bad. |

Is it a SanDisk or Sony brand card? I heard a lot of people have had problems with those SanDisk cards. Maybe it was fragile... |

My guess is that the memory card lost the connection to teh psp leads the second the psp hit the floor, and thats no good news, usually memory cards get permenantly corrupted if a connection stops abrubtly during a transfer or format. |

if that happens during transfer the memory card can be damaged .

EDIT: Shit you bought it on Ebay, nevermind. I guess it's still worth a try to ask the people you bought it from. |

thanks brother im gonna do that right now. hopefully it works out.
update: when i refomated the m/s through windows the standard way it wouldnt let me. so i did it again, but this time there is an option that says quick as in quick format. this actually opened the memory but gives me only the un used space that i had from the m/s which is 625mb out 4gig. there is nothing in the m/s it clean but the problem is that i only have 625 mb. what does this mean?? |

Originally Posted by torres1944 thanks brother im gonna do that right now. hopefully it works out. | Yeah try and return it, it's corrupted permanently or physically broken inside. Remember these memsticks are just like the flash chips in the PSP. They are physically stored data inside of a chip, it's not magnetic like a floppy disk, and not optical like a CD rom. If you pull that card out while it's writing to the right part of the disk, or smash it while it's being altered it is very possible to permanently "brick" your memory card like this. That's why you always get warning, even on consoles like 360's, ps2's, anything with a memory card, that you CANNOT and SHOULD NOT remove the card while saving. |
