Old Computer Cant Read my 4 GB Pro Duo...grrr 04-15-2007, 02:49 AM   #1 (permalink)

Default Computer Cant Read my 4 GB Pro Duo...grrr

I've tried everything, from contacting Sony (NOT helpful) to calling my friends, but this makes no sense!!

I am running Windows XP Home, fairly new computer and putting the Memory stick into a memory card reader. Let me start by saying the reader reads my old memory stick 32 mb fine and my phone's SD mini 1 gb perfect. HOWEVER, it does not see the Pro Duo (High Speed) 4 GB what-so-ever. I have tried formatting in my PSP first but doesn't help.

Are there any patches or software I can download? Any ideas would be appreciated as I feel like i've tried everything. Also in terms of the card being defective, it's not likely. The PSP sees the card and shows that I have 3847 meg's free. I think it may be too big of a card for my computer to see? Not sure I am a noob at this stuff...thanks for the help (pulling hair out)

Check for new drivers for your memory card reader. I bet the memcard reader isn't compatible with the newer cards. XP will use the 4gb's just fine, if the PSP reads it so will XP, guranteed. Try using it in another reader, preferebly one from a newer printer, I use my HP deskjet with built in memory card reader to view my cards without the PSP.

Also are you using the "adaptor" that comes with the memsticks? All my pro duo's came with an adaptor to make the smaller card fit into the old memstick slots, it's about an inch or so long.

Also for my printer, I have the Photosmart 7660 and when I put the card in there (w/ the full size memory stick adaptor) the light on the printer just blinks red

Ebay...i've been using the guide to see if it's fake but most things point toward authentic...the only thing that matched up for it being a fradulent card was the letters on the back rubbed off after i wet my thumb and smudged it for a second

When you put it in the PSP it says there are 3876 MB's free, not sure if that tells you whether or not it's fake

Since it does work in your PSP <AHEM>. Then why not just read the card via your PSP attached by USB to the PC?

EDIT: Are you using the same "adaptor" that came with the card in both the card reader and printer card reader? The cards adaptor may been broken or have crud on the pins not allowing it to read. Try using another adaptor from another card maybe.

Dude what are you talking about?? Anyway I guess I'll have to try getting a USB cable for the PSP. Why are you assuming it's fake?
