How to make your sony psp headphones louder!!

Well lets face it, they are not very loud. Its been annoying me for sometime now, i spoke to a guy (a sound engineer) about this and he showed me this way of doing it. It works well and they are much louder.

Tools needed:
Fingers of steel!!! (or some pliers)
A soldering iron

First thing you need to do is remove the grey covers of the headphones. To do this hold the grey cover with the pliers and twist the headphone, it should come off quite easily.

I have drawn a diagram for the next bit to make it easier!


The next bit involves the soldering iron so heat it up. You will need to de-solder the copper wire shown in the diagram, removing it from part A. You will then need to solder it onto point B, which is on the other side of the resistor. Dont worry i did this myself, its not that hard. It just takes some patience and a steady hand.

Click the grey headphone cover back on with the pointy bit facing downwards towards the wire (as it was) and try them out!!

I hope this helped you lot that are fed up with the 'ear friendly' homo headphones

this does work i have done it myself and to me they seem to be louder than the jap headphones that come with the jap PSPs

I can say that they do work after the "operation", but I have no clou whether they are louder or not. =P
I will compare them with my other headphones, but it's worth a try modding the PSP-ones...

hey but ive used ipod headphones on my psp and they sound louder on my ipod than on my psp does this mean that i have to do it to my ipod headphones 2 ?

okay i want to do this but my earphones but be different. They are the psp earphones but ive heard they made a newer fit. This is what mine looks like:

The best thing I have found to do, is buy a different pair of headphones. I found a pair at office max, and they are actually designed to work with cell phones that have mp3 players built into them. They came with an adapter for the psp port. They are Jabra which means they have the wierd ear pieces that are formed to fit into any ear. I have to keep my volume at about 1/4 and its perfectly loud enough.
